Yeah, it's worth checking out, I will certainly follow the series, even though I had major doubts after seeing Conan added to the 2099 bag. Has a similar creative vibe to the other Marvel series set in alternate/different timelines or worlds where the creators were given more licence with the story arcs and established characters. I like the way Doom has been portrayed, old arrogant and despotic self, obvious he has a central part to play in the series, as well as who will be the future Thor, now that's familiar, Marvel wastelands and dystopian settings always have Thor's hammer lying around somewhere. The 2099 depicted seems to be one created from the uncertainties of the present, post apocalyptic/dystopian cyberpunk themes run through the pages of Alpha, Conan 2099 also hinted at climate change, no mistaking this was written in 2019 and not the 90's. I think you can read this without being familiar with the earlier run. I prefer the look of this one. Alpha 1 is more like an introduction to what will happen next, kind of setting things up. The narrative is engaging, I think Nick Spencer has done a satisfactory job with the story, and the art by Viktor Bogdanovic and Marte Garcia is well executed. Damn, now I have to follow the check list. Might as well see where it goes. Thanks Kemp. I scanned the issue online. Looks good - I'm almost tempted to pick up a couple more issues of the 2099 series. See how I feel at the Comic Mart today in London.

Still think it kinda ridiculous adding Conan to the 2099 series and making him a part of the Marvel heroes universe, but this is the direction that Marvel has taken. Taking Conan out of the Hyborian Age is akin to DC taking Batman out of the dark urban Gotham setting and sticking him into some sci fi adventures with Superman in the late 50's. At least Marvel still have CtB and 'SSOC' to maybe balance the equation a little. In any case, it's probably not so bad if you separate this new time travelling Conan from what went on before, and that is the way I am reading it. Myself, I am not the biggest fan of cyberpunk, but at least the story and art are engaging, and Old Man Logan also had those elements.

Still want them to do Conan verse Planet of the Apes, although after reading Conan 2099, I would settle for a Conan planetary adventure in a similar vein to the Planet Hulk thing.

What the hell? So npow there are officially two Conans. Conan was plucked from the Hyborian Age into the present sometime after the death of Belit, as a young man. I get that he can have adventures in the present and return to the past a moment after he left without any memory of the present. Fun for awhile. But this of course assumes he hasn't spent too much time in the present getting old. Now we have Conan as an old (very, very old man) in 2099 and immortal to boot. If this is so, then all his Hyborian adventures after being taken to 2019 cannot have happened. This not only includes most of his adventures written by REH, it also includes those occurring in the rebooted CtB and SSOC. I suppose some writer could remove his immortality, de-age (is that a word) and eventually send him back to the Hyborian age (again without a memory) but isn't that scenario more than ridiculous, even for a comic. It just shows how Marvel has perverted REH's Conan. Shameful.

I suppose Marvel can get some writer to remove Conan’s immortality, make him young again and send him back to the Hyborian Age without any memory of what happened between 2019 and 2099. Maybe defeating Morgan le Fay took away his immortality. I think it would be incredibly stupid to remove so much experience from Conan’s life as if it never happened.
Of course Marvel’s time travelling Conan may be the Conan of Earth 616, meaning that the Hyborian Age of 616 turns into the Marvel heroes universe as opposed to REH’s Hyborian Age which turns into our world. Again, kind of disjointed.
The third option is no explanation and just hope that most of the readership doesn’t think about it too much.

I all for weirdo alternate takes on characters, but that was why you keep a title like What If? or Elseworlds around.
What if Conan fought in WWII?
What if Red Sonja was Herald of Galactus?
What if Steve Brill wasn't a greedy, irresponsible asshat?

I like it. you could bring in Benito Gallego to draw the last page in his best John Buscema style. Conan lurches out of bed in a cold sweat. "Thank Crom that's over!"

I would like to see Conan fight Spider-man. He could also star a porn story with Sonja. That would be cool too, Marvel.

How about Conan revealing he is bissexual? Multiple possibities now that Marvel has taken the rights to create Conan stories.
