Red Nails was looking troubled about this time ten years ago. By 2007, it was obvious that it would never be made. Mark Schultz and Michael W. Kaluta both worked on the film as concept artists. Kaluta, for one, said he would never work with those people again (the company is bankrupt/"suspended"). All that said, some excellent art was done for RN. I plan on presenting some here. Maybe we can look at where the movie was heading and discuss what was going right or wrong on the creative (as opposed to financial) end.

Here is a great scene (by Schultz) of Conan and Valeria (on a horse?) escaping the "dragon". IMO, this is the best rendition of the RN "dragon" I've seen. ...and here is a sketch of Conan versus the Crawler, also well-rendered:

Good stuff so far. At least the dragon isn't a stegosaurus. XD

Good stuff so far. At least the dragon isn't a stegosaurus. XD Exactly. As Rusty Burke and I have both pointed out for forever, the description by REH (read closely) is not a stegosaur. Olmec said that they were from "bones"? How often do you find a complete skeleton of any dinosaur, let alone several (as the story indicated)? Kane on the old forum, long ago, suggested that the "dragons" were "frankendinos". Schultz's depiction shows a great version of just that. Mark is one of the best guys out there when it comes to dinos.

More Schultz. Here's another prelim of the Crawler. MS is taking more of a croc angle in this one. I prefer the other. This one is too chunky and the tail is crazy-long. This one is interesting. There's no scene like this in REH's tale. That said, it looks fun!

I had those illustrations and had no idea they were from that project. Schultz is probably my favorite rendition of Conan.

Thanks, Hun! I'd seen all this art before, but I was unable to find it when creating this thread.

Thanks, Hun! I'd seen all this art before, but I was unable to find it when creating this thread. It's proving difficult to find some of the art now they've taken down the 'Conan Red Nails' website. I remember they also had the character turnarounds on that website.

I thought we had a thread on this, but I guess we don't. Nice piece here from Mark Schultz:

I thought we had a thread on this, but I guess we don't. Nice piece here from Mark Schultz: I used this great pic last year in a Conan's pastiche I wrote, but I didn't know it would be used in RN's adaptation. REH's Red Nails would indeed be very changed if it was released!
