Still longing for the day Tim & Tomas do KING CONAN: BLACK & RED, the 25 issue adaptation of Beyond the Black River, The Black Stranger and Red Nails. Hell if they want to do a 30 issue run starting with Pool of the Black One, I'd take that too. I know, just dreaming...

A Truman Red Nails would be absolutely spectacular.

Tim and Tomas on Black and Red would have been a great way for DH to finish their run in the final year. They could have run it alongside the main title. A shame they seemed to loose faith in the title just when they were winning back readers. I'd have shortened the run a little though by having Tim do BtBR solo.
I still think Tim Truman would be a great choice to write and illustrate an adaptation of Beyond the Black River. Imho, it would be best written, illustrated, inked and coloured by Tim himself in his own distinctive inimitable style. I said it on the old message board - his rendition of Slasher would be worth the price of admission alone.

Like I said initially, BtBR remains probably my favorite of the REH tales and Tim/Tomas was my favorite Lineup from DH. I see marvel had Cary Nord do some Variant covers and they Brought back Roy for 2 issues so there is hope that going forward, they will utilize some talent from older runs including Truman/Giorello although it may be short lived.

I think Tim's mentioned it's his favorite story so if all we can get it a solo adaption, I'd grab it in a heartbeat.

But what a dream it is I'm not sure if Giorello is still Valiant exclusive or not, but Marvel would be wise to reach out to him and Truman to pick up where they left off. I'll do you one better, Johnny, start with Queen of the Black Coast.

I'll do you one better, Johnny, start with Queen of the Black Coast. Thinking back..in essence Dark Horse made sure they moved Tim & Tomas OFF of Queen of the Black Coast. Wow, what a colossal miscalculation. That one decision likely cost them the license (I know, there was way more to it, but you can really point to this one decision as the moment things went irreparably wrong).. I'd be all in favor of a BLACK & RED going back and taking care of the "Black" seagoing stories as well as the Pictish adventures. You could see Pramis gingerly going into a place the king does NOT want to go, then it could flow into "But you didn't return to western shore for many years..." Black One leads into Black River leads into Black Stranger leads into Red Nails...

Do you know any details? Just curious. I know that, as a consumer of almost all things Conan, I really didn't like the DH Roy Thomas revival. I thought it a real miss and some of the worst work DH put out for Conan. The whole Road of Kings storyline was a let down. My expectations for the return of RT not withstanding.

Nothing more than anyone else, just looking at what happened. If they'd let Tim & Tomas continue, they would've gotten into Queen within another 6 issues or so. No Roy, no Brian & Becky and no need to try to bring old time readers back later. It just left a lot of bad vibes and bad feelings. I know I didn't buy around 40% of the Wood run. They may have lost the license to Marvel at some point anyway, but if they'd continued what they were doing, there would've at least been some response in DH's defense. When it happened, it was a feeling of inevitability like that was the only thing that could've happened at that point.

I have the a lot of stuff from DH but it's true that the Brian Wood run wasn't up to par. In fact I've never bothered enough to buy that run until a few days ago but I read it online. I would've loved to see Tomas draw Belit.

Over at the old forums, you guys were so blisteringly hacked off at how badly Queen had been adapted, i steered clear of the Dark Horse releases until the series got back on track, and thus the sizable gap in my Conan graphic novel collection.

I ended up making a digital version of the just the adaptation (#1-3, #22-24 and the relevant 3 or 4 pages from #25) and it's...ok. Too bad that couldn't have been an option but that would amount to an admission "OK we know a lot of this other stuff isn't all that good and you don't want to read it".

I'm guessing DH assumed Roy Thomas writing Conan again would make more of a splash than it did.
