Here's one of my own:
SHADOW
Shadows and death stalk my dreams;
flame and steel forged a warrior from a youth.
Dreary it is to rise in days of the new
when blood bespatters the fields in a deathly dew.
I traded the warm hearth of home
For the war-camp's flickering flame.
Gone are loved ones once known;
Forgotten, my mother's name.
My path is paved in pain and sorrow,
Iron-shod hooves hammer the stones.
Smoke writhes in the sky, fled is the rainbow...
By granite winds has my soul been honed.
The scorched Earth cries out for rain
Like a hard man's tear that never falls.
By my heavy hand are the butchers slain,
Sent to silent Darkness to be Its thralls.
For them, there is no healing hand's salvation,
Though one corpse clutches a bloody flower.
Bile flows from slack maws like Death's libation
All their dog-brothers fled in this ill hour.
Born in blood, greeted with laughter,
a man, smiling, harkens to Hope's tune.
Drowned in blood, tearfully led Hereafter,
The man's shade marches to its doom.
Mighty mountains of spears I've crossed.
Friendless, I stand alone, storm-tossed...
Rising from a scarlet sea, Death, my soul to claim;
I strike once more before she quenches my flame!
Flame-spears hurl from my pyre skyward.
It burns in my honour, my name a byword
For death and slaughter; Undying is my fame.
And now I walk amidst the misty ranks of the slain.
