Hi everyone. I did join the old forum briefly before it's demise and it's taken me too long to get round to joining this one. With all the news recently regarding the Amazon TV series, returns to Marvel, new pastiche books I thought it was about time to remedy that.
I first got into Conan through the 90s Adventurer cartoon, then the Schwarzenegger films and a lucky find in a second-hand book shop got me into the REH originals. I've read a reasonable amount of REH's other work, mostly his other sword and sorcery characters and Steve Costigan, but still a lot more to enjoy for the first time.

Hello everyone and thanks very much to the Mods for the add. My name is Paul and despite what my moniker may suggest, I hail from the Emerald Isle. My first encounter with Conan was when my mum bought me the first issue of the Hyrkanian War story arc in the old CtB Marvel Comics, Hawks from the Sea. Was completely blown away and have loved the whole Turanian thing ever since. A great pity that it wasn’t a Howard story of course. Still, it pointed me in the right direction and when I found Almuric and King Kull sitting on the shelf at my local library, my absolute love for the Sword and Sorcery genre and Howard’s writing was born. I think that my favourite Howard book is probably Sowers of the Thunder. I picked it up in a second hand bookstore years ago for about a pound sterling and that tatty old tome still has pride of place in my collection. Shadow of the Vulture is a wonderful tale and of course, it has the links to the comics I mentioned at the start of the post. Welcome Paul / Yezdigerd. I have always liked it in Turan: very warm, plenty silk and veils, and lots of harems for me to decieve and rob rich men. I like your avatar. I use that big helm as a breastplate. I only wear them when i feel in fighting mood, or at one of King Conan's special parties. -- >>>> and a warm WELCOME to all other new members who have finally got the bottle to join. Well done everybody. Now keep posting, and have a good moan when you need to let off some olde steam? [ my editing of your nice avatar was just for fun. no disrespect intended ]

King Conan's special parties must be quite something. "Himself as cleanly elemental as a timber wolf, he was yet not ignorant of the perverse secrets of rotting civilizations." And may have tried out a few.

Hi everyone, just recently got approved by a staff member! I'am really glad a place like this exists, mainly because I don't have an friends who are Conan fans! I became a huge Conan fan about six years ago-since then I have read most of Howard's fantasy works, and also quiet a few other classic sword & sorcery stories. Like Michael Moorcock's Elric series and Karl Edward Wagner's Kane books. With Conan The Barbarian #1 being released in only a couple of days there will be a lot to discuss!

Hello All and thank you for accepting me into the group. I was on the old boards very briefly years ago, by memory I went by Pelibr. I could remember names such as Ironhand and others, who regularly contributed with a wealth of stories and information about Conan, and other characters from Robert E. Howard's imagination. I would also like to honour those I was familiar with, who have passed.
I was on the boards only briefly, but I followed them for years and trailed off, and a few months ago I found this board and saw buxom9sorseress profile and a few other familiar names, and realised this must be the updated version. Anyhow I have followed this board for a few months now, but I could no longer stay silent, as I have to give thanks to Hun, deuce and so many more of you all, for all the stories and updates. I would have missed those beautiful Glenat editions if it weren't for you guys, as well as all the insights into the storymakers and the illustrators, that I have missed so much, and I, like so many of you, forever hopeful that one day we may see a faithful R.E. Howard Conan rendition make it to the small screen.
I am just an old bastard from Queensland, Australia, who grew up reading the Conan the Barbarian and Savage Sword comics, which in turn led me into Howard's original tales and other worlds. I hope I can show my appreciation and contribute this time better than I did last time, but I guess only time will tell. Thanks guys.

Hello All and thank you for accepting me into the group... Welcome, by Crom! Peter, I can tell you (as a newbie to this board) that one from the old board (which I never discovered, to my eternal regret) will find slaps on the back here at the return of a prodigal REH'er. As well-written as your introduction was, I can't wait to hear you chime in - as frequently or infrequently as you wish. Best, Chris....

Thank you Chris and thank you Hun for the welcome. I would often read through the posts and sometimes wish that I could have contributed to a certain topic, so it is good that now I can add my two cents worth, cheers.

I wouldn't say I was old guard as I wasn't on much, I guess I mainly lurked. This forum has a really easy going feel and there is much respect between all the members and I am honoured to be part of it now.
Yeah the avatar pic really stood out for me, there was another I really liked was the Dark Horse cover for Conan the Barbarian #10. I think the artist was Massimo Carnevale. Here it is here. This is really striking.
