Thanks, Deuce.
So I guess there's no way of having our old join date or post count. It's certainly not a big issue by any means, but it was kind of nice to be to see how long we'd been part of the online Conan/REH family.

I can deal with lost join dates and post counts, I'm just saddened by the loss of all the topics and the wealth of info and discussion in them. I learned a lot about Conan and his world from them that I wasn't able to glean from the stories. Was shutting the entire site down absolutely necessary? Did the suggestion of keeping it online but making it read-only come up?

Did the suggestion of keeping it online but making it read-only come up? Hi Spartan. Welcome back Waldgeist [ a great REH fan and IT expert ] very generously offered to host the entire old forum [ and keep it running ] on his powerful servers in Germany. [ that is the best offer REH fandom has ever had ] He was ignored. Several of us begged Paradox to please keep a cut down [reduced size] version of that great forum running until REHF were ready with their new forum. We got no answers. Some of us thanked Paradox for being such great and liberal forum hosts for 12 years. Jason [ Mitra bless him ] very quickly created this fine forum and saved all us REH fans from becoming cut off, and scattered, and homeless. Paradox then helped REH fans by putting a clear link to Jasons new forum on the closed page of the old forum. [ that is a big help for all stray fans ] ---- [ i still cannot understand the desperate rush to shut down the entire forum, and throw out all us loyal fans into cyber wilderness? we only had about 3 weeks notice of the shocking closure ] and there has been no progress reports about the new REHFoundation forum, or about the work of archiving the invaluable main database of the wonderful old forum. ==== >> and welcome to MAJERE, and any other new members. ==== [ must go now: i have to remove a vicious curse that a very bad tempered lying wererat has cast on my shadow...hubble bubble toil & trouble...a witch's work is never done... ]

Why was Paradox so determined to shut it down so quick if their forum isn't even up yet? Furthermore, how did they have any right to shut it down in the first place? Was the site owned by them or something? I always thought it was privately owned.

Was the site owned by them or something? I always thought it was privately owned. Paradox owned the entire old forum site. [ thats why they could be so liberal and let us post lots of NSFW female warrior pics, there ] And they still own /control all the rights to ALL REH works. So they can do pretty much whatever they want? [ i think Paradox is owned by 'Cabinet', now? ] I cannot understand why they would act to upset all us great REH fans, and rush the REHF into running a new forum which was nowhere near ready? == they seem to want to keep the conan.com domain? so maybe they are hoping to run a site there which will tie in with the next Conan film? [ but the great old forum covered all that film fan stuff better than any new site could ever hope to do? ] ==== >> we are lucky that Jason, Deuce, and Aggro are here to moderate and help us all through the future.

There's a header at the top of every page asking us to "consider supporting this website by disabling your ad-blocker." What does that mean? How does it support the website? Should I do it?

Waldgeist is a great guy. No argument there. I tried to join his new "Conan" site (3 times) and could never do so. Did you have better luck? Are you spending time over there, Bux? Whether Paradox/Cabinet hosts or shuts down a site is up to them. It was always free to REH fans and costs CPI money every day it's out there (even while inactive). The archived Forum posts won't be put up until the REH Foundation forum is up and running. The set-up for that is being done free by volunteers and takes some time. All members of the old forum were given several weeks' notice. I copy/pasted massive amounts of texts to my files. You didn't?

Was the site owned by them or something? I always thought it was privately owned. The Foundation forum won't really be "their" forum. Cabinet/Paradox had been trying to transfer forum ownership over for several years. The Foundation (funded but not administered by CPI/Cabinet) hadn't been getting the job done. Cabinet finally pulled the plug on the Old Forum due to several reasons. The Old Forum was founded, financed and maintained by CPI/Paradox/Cabinet. Who did you think was paying for all of the high-grade software? How many other full-blown forums do you know of that are more than 12yrs old? There are several, but they are the exceptions. Cabinet is a "privately owned" company. The Old Forum was always a free benefit provided by Fredrick Malmberg as head of CPI/Paradox/Cabinet.

[ joining worked ok for me, first try ] if you had a specific menu problem there? then post details in a new 'Waldgeist Forum' topic [ on here ] then i can ask Waldgeist to read it [ for possible future tech help? ] ====

I believe I did manage to join that forum, but there was so little activity there, on top of my usual laziness/standoffishness, I haven't been back in a while.

Just wanted to say thanks for getting this running. I was sad to discover that the old board had closed, despite not having posted actively for a couple of years. Hope this one and the future REHF board continue the legacy of great posts from REH fans and scholars.
