Any recommendations?
I think I would like to check out a couple of them, I am reading a MAGIC the gathering book by Loren Coleman and it is very good IMO...what about Kern?
Hi Mirror-T.
>> AOC novels [ + other collections of short stories? ]
we had lots of reviews of all the AOC novels at the closed old paradox forum.
[ you may be able to read them when the archive eventually becomes available at the proposed new REHF forum?
but i wouldn't wait for that: life is too short? ]
i read all 3 stygia - anok books:
#1 was quite good and interesting
#2 was average but got worse
#3 was a huge decline and big disappointment.
mostly was rushed, too crazy /very silly, and too cheesy, & full of very convenient coincidences and quick plot solving. ridiculous.
a big let down.
i read cimmeria - kern #1
got annoyed with weird kern and his blond hair.
corny action, and boring cardboard characters.
[ i gave up after about 75% ]
a friend lent me kern #3 [ said it would amuse me ].
plenty of action, but mostly too silly.
big multi-battle at end was utterly ridiculous.
like poor d&d meets poorer d&d in a tolkien battle spoof.
- it did amuse me - but very disappointing slop.

i gave up after that rubbish.

none of the trilogies got any good praise.
main problem for the writers was that they had to fill a big long trilogy of books.
so lots of poor filler and all plots are dragged out to frustrating boredom.
we begged paradox to produce a book of AOC short stories, but they went with the ridiculous huge trilogies, and they failed to impress most conan fans.
paradox never seemed enthusiastic about producing aoc books, or short tales.
they seemed to love comics instead. [ and were most obsessed with film making ]
----
if they had brought out 1 or 2 books [collections of short tales] per year, [with a good editor to guide writers about REH lore]
just think of how many good tales we might have had over many years [since 2002]
and how it would have made profits for owners, good practice for budding writers, and spreading the popular world of Conan to many new fans?
and they should have produced a collection of Conan tales every 3 or 4 years, too.
and they definately should have produced all 6 of Hockings planned Conan books.
[ what a frustrating waste of many empty years, and great writers ]
>>>> and keeping new story books on shelves [ and Amazon ] is best way to continually promote the works of Howard, because they are showcasing his big world of conan.
[ + links to REH should be printed in every book ]

>>>> idea <<<<
Paradox should allow writers to write AGE OF CONAN tales in the new
SKELOS mag?
And also allow new tales about Conan and about Sol' Kane, in the mag, too.
The new tales would PROMOTE REH [ and his characters and worlds ] better than almost anything else.
