Since there were a lot of characters running around I thought it would be fun if we could each pitch our own characters or take an existing character from Hyboria and develop them in line with the Hyborian Age. This could mean giving Thoth Amon a proper backstory (much as I like Book of Thoth I'm well aware that it would not fit in a canon depiction).
Note: This is a "free for all" thread. Any person can add their own original characters
I'll start it off with Part 1 of my first character: Fassir of Shusan (a Villain):
Profile #1: Fassir the Red Eagle: Born in the city of Shusan, Fassir seemed destined for greatness. He joined the Asshuri of Shusan during the one week recruitment festival, emerging as the finest of all the recruits. He served with distinction for seven years, aiding Shusan's war's of expansion in Eastern Shem, serving foreign armies, and guarding Shusan. Due to his meteoric advance, some predicted that Fassir might soon lead the city guard. Unfortunately, Fassir also had a massive ego to go along with his massive skill, and thus found himself making a great deal of enemies within even his own unit. At the age of 27, Fassir made a minor mistake while carrying out a contract in a foreign city, which resulted in the death of a nobleman's son. His enemies seized upon this chance, and Fassir was humiliated, stripped of his command, and scheduled for execution. Fassir was furious; he had given his all to Shusan, yet because of a single mistake they had stripped him of everything. His brother, who still cared for him, surreptitiously worked to free him from his cell. Fassir escaped fled East into Turan and, still a warrior at heart, enlisted in the Turanian military; once again he rose quickly, becoming renowned in Turan's army for his skill with the sword. It was this skill that brought him to the attention of Prince Yezdigerd, who was then 16 years old.
Yezdigerd had enlisted in Turan's army in an attempt to prove himself to his siblings and Father. Not willing to be anything less than second best, but realizing that he had had a sheltered existence, Yezdigerd sought out Fassir for help. Fassir was skeptical at first but ultimately agreed to train Yezdigerd in both the life of a soldier and more advanced forms of sword fighting. The two ultimately became friends, which would ultimately wind up saving Fassir's life. During a raid against the hill tribes, Fassir disobeyed his incompetent commander's orders; even though this action had ensured their victory Fassir's commander was a powerful aristocrat. Fassir was court martialled, but Yezdigerd intervened. He used his own ties to look into the case, and ultimately forced the military to not only clear Fassir of all charges, but to reinstate him with full priveleges while the incompetent commander was the one who was ultimately disgraced. As a result, Fassir became completely devoted to his new patron. If Yezdigerd needed help, than Fassir would be there for him.
Fassir fought alongside Yezdigerd in several campaigns; during one of these campaigns Fassir's party found a young Cimmerian named Maeldun passed out in the desert. Fassir, curious to see a northron, ultimately took the boy back to camp. The boy told him and Yezidgerd of the city of Khor Khala, and how his tribe and been wiped out and sold as slaves to them. He further told them that he had come to meet the Lady Iasmini, a Turanian noblewoman, and how she had died helping him escape. Realizing that he would need help to get avenge both Iasmini and his tribe, he had wandered south hoping to meet Iasmini's father, who he had been told was a powerful general in Turan's army. Yezdigerd and Fassir were skeptical at first, but became convinced when Maeldun showed them the necklace that Iasmini had given him. When the Turanian army assaulted Khor Khala Fassir was one of the first soldiers over the walls, leading the Turanian forces in the bloody massacre of the nobles. After the battle was over, Fassir and Yezdigerd persuaded Maeldun to stay on as a personal soldier, with Fassir mentoring Maeldun in the ways of civilized warfare.
Several years and several campaigns passed, while more outsiders joined the band that Yezdigerd had created (though Fassir was the undisputed Leader for the most part). Eventually, when Fassir was 38 King Yildiz fell ill. Yezdigerd's brothers Murad and Selim, jealous at their brother's meteoric rise, made an attempt to assassinate Yezdigerd and his brother Ardashir. While Fassir and Maeldun were able to save Yezdigerd from the assassins, Ardashir died in the fight. Quick investigations by Yezdigerd’s spies revealed Murad and Selim’s involvement, and Yezdigerd began to bide his time; as his father grew sicker Yezdigerd began making his plans. No sooner was King Yildiz dead than Yezdigerd’s forces received the go ahead to wipe out the rest of Yezdigerd’s siblings, their children, and any who supported them. As Yildiz’s funeral procession was held, Yezdigerd’s most trusted champions set about rallying their loyal soldiers and bribing those who could be persuaded to change their loyalty. As Maeldun and Selim planned their assassination of Yezdigerd, Maeldun and Fassir led forces into their palaces. As Maeldun beat Selim to death with his gauntleted fists, Murad was forced to watch his children die before being strangled to death in front of a triumphant Yezdigerd.
The Fall of Shusan
Once Yezdigerd was on the throne, Fassir was entrusted with command over the conquests of Yezdigerd’s most desired prizes; the cities of Shem. At the head of a massive army, Fassir led the Turanian forces in an attack on the eastern city states of Shem. One by one, they fell before Turan, until only the Shusan Empire stood before them. By now Fassir had long abandoned any love towards his former home and was willing to bring it under Yezdigerd's dominion. Still, Shusan would not be an easy nut to crack. Relying on the few friends and family he still had within Shusan, as well as the corruption of certain nobles within the city, Fassir began to undermine the defenses from within. When the time was right, Fassir's infiltrators threw open the gates and allowed the Turanian horde into the city. The Asshuri fought bravely, but they had never believed their city could be breached. As such they were woefully unprepared and fell before the Turanian advance. Once the city was conquered, Fassir executed those nobles who had disgraced him years before. The disgraced soldier had returned a conquerer.
Clash with Conan and Downfall
After the fall of Shusan, Fassir began to plan other engagements into the Western city states of Shem; before he could carry out these engagements he was recalled back to Turan to deal with a new upstart. A Cimmerian named Conan had unified the Zuagir and Kozaki raiders into a single powerful horde; this horde had proceeded to burn Kharwazeim, one of the biggest cities in the empire. Women had been captured, slaves had been liberated and one of the Empire's greatest ports was gone. Such insolence could not be tolerated. Fassir returned to deal with the upstart, leaving behind an occupation force in the city of Shusan. After studying up on Conan's exploits, he noticed a potential weakness. Many tribal villages in Hyrkania had come to see the Horde as defenders and liberators against the forces of Turan. Fassir decided that if he could not find Conan, he would make Conan come to him. To smoke Conan out he ordered his men to slaughter 3 entire villages, leaving only one alive from each. They were then instructed to seek Conan out, and inform him of the challenge. He held the forces of one more village hostage; if Conan refused to come by sundown within three days, he would have them all put to the sword. If Conan refused he would loose the respect of many of the free peoples. However, Fassir made a fatal mistake, and that was in underestimating Conan's resourcefulness. Conan did ultimately ride the horde out to meet Fassir, but not before having several of his men infiltrate Fassir's army and persuade many of Fassir's soldiers (who had been conscripted Hyrkanians with no love of Turan). When battle was joined, Conan initially allowed Fassir to think he had the advantage before giving the signal. The turncoat soldiers betrayed the main Turanian army, sowing chaos amongst their ranks and allowing Conan to close in on Fassir. Fassir's attempts to order his forces to slaughter the civilians was undelivered in the chaos of the fighting. The Cimmerian wolf and the Shemite Eagle faced off in a titanic sword duel as their armies clashed around them; despite fighting harder than he ever had before, Fassir ultimately fell before Conan of Cimmeria. His head was delivered in a box to Yezdigered, an act which would earn the Cimmerian Yezdigerd's undying hatred.
Creator's notes: I wanted Fassir who is kind of a foil to Conan. Fassir is in many ways a cold hearted bastard; he has no problems killing women and children in service to his lord and is extremely ruthless. However, he is genuinely loyal to his master, and not just because of payment. Yezdigerd helped him in his darkest hour and ensured his loyalty with genuine friendship. That's another thing; Conan takes orders from no man. He lives for himself, and while he cares for his pack and those he loves (friends family) he does what HE wants. Fassir is ultimately a dog who obeys his master's commands. At the same time, he's every bit as deadly as Conan. Having sparred with another Cimmerian, he isn't as unprepared for him as Zaprovo was in Pool of the Black One. In the end, Conan ultimately triumphs even though it's barely
