I thought this would be the first half of the run, but when I work the page count out, it looks like it'll have #1-18, the #0 issue and a few bonuses. You'll still end up paying less for three volumes (I suspect V2 will be 19-34 then V3 with 35-50 plus bonuses along the way) of this compared to the one Colossal volume.

I might actually buy this when it comes out. Depending on how well Bunn does this could turn Conan's fortunes around

It may be a good idea but Dark Horse could have chosen a better cover. There are a lot of better covers than that in the 1-18 issues the book covers, Linsner`s included.

A Volume 2 has been spotted in an online catalog for sometime next year (I want to say April). No issues listed yet.
One thing I overlooked is these are going to be almost 500 page trades rather than hardcovers that omniboo usually are. I'm guessing this is an attempt by Dark Horse to make inroads into the area Marvel staked out with their Epic trades. Sales of those started slow but have picked up over the past year or so. With the Colossal Conan now going for north of $350 online, three of these for $75 total (usually less with discounts) is very manageable.

Indeed. I also think the vol 2 has been moved to march.

Hi all, can I ask what's in this? I've wanted to read the Dark Horse Conan for a while, but I've always resisted the temptation as buying the many, many Marvel reprints was already a massive commitment, but this looks like a good way to start.
Is it straight REH adaptations? Or a mix of REH, pastiche and original stories?

The main series, which this Omni collects, is a mix of adaptations linked together with original stories. The series has gone through several iterations (Cimmerian, Road of Kings, Barbarian, Avenger, Slayer) and we're now up to Devil In Iron starting in January. There have also been a couple stand alone minis that adapt Howard stories (Jewels of Gwahlur, People of the Black Circle), as well as a King Conan series that adapted all the stories (and fragments) that related to Conan's time as king of Aquilonia.

Picked this up in the morning (for some reason the omnibus was released a week later in London).
The Omnibus contains issues 0-15, and the rest of the 'Born of the Battlefield' story arc; issues 23, 32, 45 & 46. For now, they appear to be presenting Conan's adventures in chronological order. The one-shot and mini series from the early DH era are not present - which I think is a good thing.
£23 ($24.99 in the US) for 20 comics is very good value for money. Considering it costs around £3.35 for a single issue of the current series. I'm not overly impressed with the cover - each of the story arcs have the first cover, the rest of the covers can be found in the 'gallery' at back of the book, this includes the trade covers.
I've just started rereading these issues, just finished 0 and 'Born of the Battlefield'. Next, I'll dive into 'The Frost Giant’s Daughter'. I gotta admit it's pretty good, I remember I kinda gave up on DH Conan around about the middle of the first Conan series - I completely gave up during the Brian Wood's run.

Why would you give up on DH Conan in the middle of the first series? The story was just so great! At the time, with the series in the mid 20's I could see that Cary Nord was finding it difficult with the deadlines - it also looked like Busiek was gonna leave as well. So, I kinda lost interest, I still did read the issues, but, lost interest in the comic. Initially I was not really too impressed with Giorello's depiction of Conan, but, by the 'Hour of the Dragon' adaptation his art improved, at least that's how it seemed to me.

I can sort of understand (Nord's art was a little rough). But overall it was pretty fucking good. Timothy Truman did a great job for his half and Cimmerian. Maybe you'll look back on it more fondly reading it now. I was more impressed with road of kings on my second run through.

Not too sure about Road of Kings.
