I am currently watching "Brittania" season 3 on Epix On Demand. Binged the first 2 seasons on Amazon Prime in 4K. That was amazing. Davis Morrisey is flat out hilarious as Aulus. Makenzie Cook playing 2 Druids was fun. Really like the vibe of this show. As someone earlier noted very REH in texture and form. If they would apply this kind of attention to an adaptation of "Worms of the Earth" I think that would be a huge hit. If you haven't checked this out it is a lot of fun. The characters are well thought out and the performances are first rate. Artistic direction is amazing. Give it a spin. We just finished watching that, totally agree. Absolutely bonkers and it shouldn't work but it does! Yep would love a WOTE in this style

Amazon's Terminal List starring Chris Pratt looks worth a watch. Not seen it myself but heard good things about it.

Loved the Sandman books back in the day, especially Season of Mists. But here we go again... The original inspiration for Death... For the the show, we are getting... Admittedly, Death can change her appearance at will, but still. 98% of the time she looked like the first picture throughout the comics and only changed her the look of her clothes. I don't think there was ever a more iconic and recognizable goth chic in any media than Death. Diversity box checking is far more important than cementing that legacy.

Like you said Death can change her look so if Gaiman wants to do it, it's ok I guess. She can always appear like that later...probably for one scene or so but...
Kind of like Martin and the Velaryons on House of the Dragon, if the author's ok with it, I'll just go "...whatever..."
As long as the show captures the essence of the source material, that's step one these days. THAT seems to be the most difficult part. Then making sure the actors are right for the part.

Yeah. I mean this was a show I was looking forward to since I read the comics. I really liked Death and her two spinoff stories. She was the most important character to see live on screen for me and given the context of all the other shows doing similar, this gouged me pretty hard. Literally one of my top 5 characters right up there with Conan that I was hoping wouldn't be messed with. I really wanted to see the iconic Death from the comics, visually. This is not that.
That said, the trailer does look pretty good. I would have preferred Morphius to look less human. Abnormally tall, with thin with black, starlit eyes.

Currently watching Banshee on HBOMAX after enjoying Anthony Starr's performance in the Boys. I always thought Banshee was supernatural but it's not. It's rural crime noir and it's damn bloody. Absolutely brilliant series , have to fit in for a re-watch soon. Damn was that a good series. Not for the faint of heart, though. The first three seasons were shot in Georgia but they moved the production to Pennsylvania for the fourth and final season, which added some authenticity. I think the location change led to a truncated season, though, they rushed a few plot points to wrap everything up it felt like.

A good nuanced and balanced overview from a long time Sandman fan: Don't have time to watch the whole 28min. Is the gist of it that the show has a black person in it?

As a somewhat older guy who was there, like me (46), he reflects on the history of Sandman, it's success and how it sharply changed comics. He correctly points out how Sandman drew a significant amount of female attention for both Morpheus and Death, citing one of the original cosplay characters for girls (which also was folded perfectly into the goth scene at the time, amplifying it to the max). Talks about Tori Amos loving Death. He claims it was one of the foundational pillars that helped transition comic buyers from floppies to TPBs. I don't know if I was aware of that at the time, but maybe there is something to that claim (any thoughts from those of you buying comics in the late 80's early 90s?). Talks about Lucifer being cast as a female (warrior lady from GoT) without taking issue with it. (I don't mind either).
On Death...talks about the direct, deliberate inspiration for Death (the pictured Goth chic- Cinamon Hadley) who died of cancer 2018 (didn't know that). Talks about Hadley's history and heavy influence on goth culture. Shows past tweet from Gaimen acknowledging her death and connection to his work. States- if there was ever someone who should be immortalized, it should have been Cinamon/Death, especially how she was vital toward the success of Sandman.
I didn't know about her dying or consider that, yeah, that character and the human behind it is really, really special. To cast all that aside to just, once again, fall in line with diversity check-boxing is now even worse to me. I'll also point out that after the backlash from fans, Gaimen had zero reasoning in any of his responses about the lurching casting choice. Almost all of his responses, just like with so many other examples, was to fire back at those that dared to voice their disagreement. Why? Because there is no reasoning and he knows it.
I will also point out after thinking about this a little more that aesthetically, they missed an opportunity to do something I don't know if I have ever seen before that would have been really cool. Death is whiter than the average white person, meaning, in the comics, she always looks beyond pale- like something that lands inhumanly white on the color spectrum, whiter than a albino. Like something that walked out of a black and white movie with the contrast turned way up. How cool would it have been, visually for them to duplicate that somehow for the show? That would have been visually stunning.
What a shame, but after the last few years, there is nothing left in my disappointment/frustration reserve.

No, I wouldn't have posted it if it was. The gist is that it's good nuanced and balanced overview from a long time Sandman fan for why he won't be watching the TV series version - though he does backtrack a little at the end.

Neil Gaiman, creator of The Sandman, discusses his approach to trolls who go online to criticize the Netflix show's color and gender-blind casting. The Sandman creator Neil Gaiman explained why he chooses to fire back at online trolls over Netflix's color and gender-blind casting of the comic book adaptation. In an interview with Yahoo Entertainment at San Diego Comic-Con, Gaiman revealed his reasons for directly replying to people who have taken to Twitter to complain about the show's "wokeness." These so-called fans have lambasted the casting of actors such as Black actor Kirby Howell-Baptiste as Death, non-binary actor Mason Alexander Park as Desire and Gwendoline Christie, a woman, cast as the genderless fallen angel Lucifer. www.cbr.com/the-sandman-neil-gaiman-explains-tears-down-online-trolls/

They have to be careful to weed the real trolls, like the ones who were going after the Star Wars actresses, with the actual fans who do have legitimate concerns. Those will have their answers once the show airs and they'll see if the focus and feel is correct. If they still voice legitimate and respectful criticisms, the creators will need to take them into consideration. It reminds me of the story Charlton Heston told about the time he was working with Laurence Olivier and Sir Larry got some bad reviews. Heston told him to ignore them and he said "Chuck, it's the good ones you have to ignore."
