I picked this up last week at PulpFest 2016 so I could read PotBC. howardworks.com/berkley-blackcanaan.jpgThe plot of "People of the Black Coast" sounds interesting, I was surprised it hasn't been reprinted recently. Hopefully I didn't set my expectations too high.

It was reprinted in one of the Baens, but even that is 20 years old already!

Nice find. I always liked the Berkley editions.

I've always liked PotBC, interesting weird tale given some intensity by a strong shot of the Howard magic. Roy Thomas used the setting and monsters for a one issue story in the Marvel Conan comics.

I seem to remember first reading it in the shortlived horror and fantasy magazine, Coven 13 long long time ago. Anyone else remember that publication?

My mistake. The Coven 13 story I remember by Howard wad called The Little People. Like I said,Coven 13 was long time ago. But I found some google entries.

One of Ken Kelly's two renditions of REH's yarn:

From our real reality :-)
One wonders if REH would've had a case...

From an alternate reality Cool! I love People of the Black Coast - just a very grim and dark tale with powerful imagery typical of Howard. The scene where the guy discovers the girl's hand lying on the beach stays with you for awhile.

One wonders if REH would've had a case... I've wondered about the many similarities in the stories too (I was going to use the crab monsters in my photo manipulation but couldn't find a good picture), the movie was 1957 and howardworks has 1969 as the first publishing date of PotBC, so I guess it's coincidence. The only other explanation I can imagine is that telepathic giant crabs are real and beaming their bizarre emanations into the unconscious minds of certain gifted individuals.

When it first hit the news, I mentioned this on the Old Forum. There are numerous similarities betwixt PotBC and (what appears to be) Earhart's last days. Louinet says REH wrote it in 1928.
