I'm a sucker for buying stories that feature fictionalized versions of REH (To the Land of the Living, Lovecraft's Book, Shadow's Bend, etc.) so when I heard there was this book on Amazon called King Conan and the Stygian Queen that teams Conan up with REH, I figured I'd read it.
Well, it's not very good (understatement!) but it is such a fannish dopey thing that you gotta admire the chutzpah of it. The guys writes a short little story where Conan dreams of Hester Howard and feels his existence is threatened. Pelias sends him forward in time to Cross Plains where he teams up with REH. Conan gives REH the confidence to fight some bullies and kiss Novalyne. REH types up some of Conan's adventures and everything is ok until Thoth-Amon sends the Stygian Queen to Cross Plains. She seduces REH and has him burn up the stories. The Hyborian Age's greatest hero will be lost forever!
Conan kills the witch. REH's manuscripts are saved. Conan takes REH back in time to become Balthus (Hester has died and Conan and Doc and Novalyne know that REH will kill himself without something to do) and then the book reprints "Beyond the Black River." A final chapter is added where REH's dead body is sent back to CP. REH/Balthus died fighting the Picts. Doc and Novalyne tell the public REH committed suicide. Conan's world was saved, REH died a hero's death...
So dopey you can't really dislike it. I hope this guy shows up at Howard Days next year!

I have not read pastiche Conan for years now. But, 'King Conan and the Stygian Queen' seems mighty tempting.
