I am 74 pages into 'A Gathering of Ravens' and all I can say is ... "Buy this book!". I envy you this first reading; AGOR is an excellent book. I am anxiously waiting for my hardcover to be delivered to my home soon, I hope. I pre-ordered my copy a while ago via Amazon.ca. Release date was the 20th of this month, but Amazon says I don't get my book until July 18th-28th. WTF? I have never had to wait more than a week for anything I've ordered from them before. And I thought that was the whole idea behind pre-ordering, so that you get the latest release asap. I would be better served to go to a bookstore in the city and grab one off the shelf...

Hey, a starred review at PW is good news. A hardcover fantasy novel is not always an easy sell these days and might not get the best start in bookstores, but a starred review from Publisher's Weekly flags a book for a buy at many libraries. Scott's publisher will be pleased.

The book is pretty damn good. Anyone here looking for gritty, action and adventure fantasy need look no further. The essence of some of REH's prose is embedded in the DNA of Scott's writing, and the best part is that he is hard at work on the sequel. Scott is the real deal.

Fast-paced, poetic, and inventive ... I wanted this book to go on forever. As a bonus to we on this forum (or should it be 'us on this forum'?) is keeping count of the Robert E. Howard references. Back to work Oden, your fans want that sequel.

I just finished reading AGOR, fantastic! To be honest you had me from the opening REH quote and it didn't let go from there. Loved the refs scattered throughout too, "no game of thrones" lol.

Glad you liked it! You know, that REH quote was *supposed* to go with the dedication, but someone somewhere moved it to its own page.

Haha well that's the advantage with self publishing - absolute total control Of course it also means I have to do everything myself....
