I think this version of Beuriel is more in harmony with your own artistic style. But the expression on her face looks sad and reluctant. In the context of her story, it's as if she doesn't really want to do this. I hesitate to make any suggestions, but maybe if she looked happier ... or more confident ... or more accepting? I might say "more exalted", but that might require her to be looking toward the sky rather than directly at the viewer... I say this with all due respect for your talent. Fair points. That was one thing I wasn't pleased with in the last version of this - her smiling/looking happy. I think I was going for more of a peaceful and relieved feel this time around, as she was so filled with hatred, bile, sarcasm and anger for most of the game. She caused a lot of pain and hurt to others around her over the course of our adventures, including her brothers (since males are treated like crap in drow society), so maybe there is a bit of sadness now(?). It kind of seems unnatural to me for her to be smiling kindly in a picture, but perhaps more of a gentle smile could work - not too unlike the one I did where she killed the spider. She was, actually, very reluctant to participate in the dance ritual the first couple times, so maybe there is a bit of lingering hesitation like you mentioned. I'm sure I'll draw another picture of her down the line since I enjoy it so much, so I'll keep a happier look in mind for next time. She has a daughter, actually, so I guess she could be smiling about that! Thanks for commenting, Ironhand.

Thanks for your exposition on her history. That tells me it is a "true" picture; what I interpreted as sadness is conflictedness, and she actually IS somewhat conflicted. Now that I know, it is plain to see in her face. I shall not raise this kind of quibble again, since your pictures have internal truth, whether you intend it or not. Keep up the good work.

And I don't mind, it gave me a chance to explain her character a bit more. I imagine that once she drops that shawl and starts dancing, all that internal conflict will be washed away.

[ like we see on film & tv from all the evil scheming cruel bitches? ] that should be a good challenge for your 'facial' talents, eh?

Great pencilling once again Officer Aggro!
There can’t be many players who are inspired, imaginative, commited, and talented enough to write a full illustated journal of their character’s adventures.
I don’t know how Bux managed to miss the texture effect of pencil on paper. One of the things that modern art misses in the digital age are some of the textures of more traditional art.
Your group seems to have found their ideal rpg in Pathfinder. I’m glad that WotC made a come back with the new 5th edition D+D, and that it’s popular, but also glad about Pathfinder’s continuing success.

I started writing recaps for whichever friend had missed the latest gaming session, then got the idea to do it from my character's perspective. It got to the point where my friends wanted me to write Beuriel's journal entry even if everyone was present, so it became an entertaining way to record every step of our adventures. Yeah, while I respect digital art, I still prefer the more personal touch of the traditional methods. I need to try out 5th ed. one of these days, as I hear much of the focus is on Forgotten Realms, which is the gaming world I prefer.

[ so did you copy the faces from a photo? ] [ i am interested in the creative process ] -- Hail Aggro ! Thanks very much! Yeah, I actually used a photo reference of a performing group called 'Sirena: The Sirens'. They are three very talented girls that sing and perform at Renaissance festivals every year, and I always thought it would be fun to use them for a drawing one day. I obviously made several changes, but you could still tell it's them. They definitely make good elves, I think. Check them out here, and watch one of the videos: We Are Sirena

Wow, they are beautiful and talented. Thanks for introducing me to them. You've captured them very well here and they do make excellent elves. Have you shown them this? I bet they'd like it!

Thanks, Alhazred! And you're welcome. They're a lot of fun to watch, especially as they move through the audience while they sing and dance - You can't help but be mesmerized sometimes. They're taking a break this year, but I hope to see them again next year. I haven't shared this picture with them...yet. I follow them on Facebook, so I might do that soon.
