David Wenzel is known to REH comics fans for his great Solomon Kane art, but he is also a long-time JRRT admirer. He's especially known for his Hobbit paintings done for various publishers since the '70s. Have you seen the painted comic adaptation of the Hobbit Wenzel did with Chuck Dixon for Eclipse Comics back inthe 80's? It was re-released in trade format at some point when the Tolkien movies were coming out. #1 #2 #3 Eclipse did a trade collection of the 3 issues in 1990, and del Rey released an edition in 2001 collecting all three issues and a new reprint edition of the same book in 2012 (no new contnet just a different cover jacket). -M

Gone forty-four years ago today. A good son and brother, a soldier who did his duty in a horrible war and went on to have a son serve in another, a devoted husband and father and a loyal friend. I'd say he did well with the time given him.

I see that I am not alone in not remembering that it is now 2018. JRRT would be 126 today. (Clark Ashton Smith would have turned 125 on the 13th, though.)
