GAH! Conan's wearing one of those superhero face-thingies that isn't a mask or helmet. Is there a name for those? Has anyone outside of comic books ever worn such a thing? It's called an happuri... Thank you.

I really enjoyed this thread. I got into Marvel Conan comics late 1992 while in college and was a faithful fan until "Conan the Savage" was discontinued. During that time, I had a blast acquiring all the Conan Saga back-issues to enjoy the earlier SSOC and CTB stories by Roy Thomas, who was really the heart and soul of Marvel's Conan. I thought that the main stories by Roy in SSOC the last couple of years had declined a bit, helped in great part by some of the artist that contributed during that period, but I still enjoyed my monthly dose of Conan and really liked the CTB continuation story that ran as backup piece on each issue. The Conan the Adventurer was another miss, in my view.
It was sad to see the desperate changes of direction that occurred at the end, especially the very awful "Conan" comic (1995) that has been discussed here. Sadly it would get even worse. I remember picking up one of those 3-part series that Marvel produced after 1996 and seeing Zula say in one of the first few pages: "Yo, Conan". That really drove home the notion that Conan was dead at Marvel.

I'm glad to hear you were able to find the good stuff before that happened. Welcome to the forum!

I'm glad too, because there is certainly plenty of good stuff there. I got into it thanks to three SSOC issues that a friend of mine had bought casually at our local Walgreen's a few years earlier. Before that I was not into comics so I did not even know there were Conan titles. My only knowledge of Conan was from the movies as a child and I did not think too highly of them as I grew up. Anyway, it's good to be here among folks with a common interest.

I seem to recall some truly hideous '90s-style comic art and not much substance. I call this the "I Am Cable!" Conan cover. The way had been lost. Rob Liefeld, the inventor of the "idiotic vein network":

Does anyone know where these pages are from? I'd like to track down a copy of whatever magazine or article this is.
