I wish Disney hadn't gone the way of making both Force Awakens & Rogue One both having Disney princesses as the leading role. I can't hardly keep the two movies separate in my head. Recently a buddy of mine offered to loan me Rogue One and my wife said 'I have't seen that one, right?' and I said 'Yeah, we did.' Well I was thinking of Force Awakens. I had to go back later and ask to borrow Rogue so she could see it. I wish instead that one of the films used a differently sexed character other than a Disney Princess - and that's (for me anyway) what this boils down to. Anastasia, Cinderella, Sleeping Beauty, Beauty and the Beast, Force Awakens, Rogue One - what do they all have in common? Oh - forgot one: Frozen. Well, probably forgot way more than one. You get the gist. If Rey had been TulSok - Son of Kenobi - instead, I'd be able to remember which the frig flick we were talking about.

I went to see the new Guardians of the Galaxy this weekend and was pretty blown away. Far far superior to the last Star Wars...essentially a cross between the original star wars and the Marvel heroes it really seems fresh and new despite the genre that has been around since the thirties

I wish Disney hadn't gone the way of making both Force Awakens & Rogue One both having Disney princesses as the leading role. I find it very amusing that Disney bought Marvel and Lucasfilm at least partially because of its ongoing inability to find ways to appeal to teenaged boys, only to immediately begin pushing female protagonists in Star Wars. They're even now hyping up an animated series that will focus exclusively on the major women of the Star Wars universe. I assume they've come to some conclusion that the brand's guy-appeal is impregnable and they can have it both ways? Not that I really care - I'm sick of Jedi regardless of their gender - it's just something that stood out to me

Don't get me wrong - I appreciate a strong female lead. Leia rocked. But Star Wars began w/ Luke Skywalker as the major character and has since segued to Elsa being the main saber swinger. Disney should get their heads out of their collective arseholes while they can. They BLEW John Carter on so many levels and now they're going to do the same thing to a universe I at one time found highly appealing.

somewhere along the line Star Wars went from a really fun, light hearted adventure for young and old to a totally overly serious series of war movies. There is zero anything remotely fun about it now. Yes, killing hundreds and thousands of totally inept storm troopers can almost be fun. The problem is the Dark Lords blinds them with those stupid helmets so they cant shoot straight because he over recruits and needs someone to kill down the excess....at least thats my theory
maybe what they need is a wisecracking raccoon, a little wooden thingy and a huge bald Hulk clone....oh wait

I went to see the original three times which is a lot for me I was also impressed with the third one REturn of the Jedi...seems like all of it has gone downhill since...somewhere along the line they forgot about how fun Flash Gordon was and left it out of all the remakes

I went to see the original three times which is a lot for me I was also impressed with the third one REturn of the Jedi...seems like all of it has gone downhill since...somewhere along the line they forgot about how fun Flash Gordon was and left it out of all the remakes In my opinion the first three were all awesome. I loved the creativity in the spacecraft etc in the Hoth scenes. The AT-ATs were awesome - likewise the Snowspeeders. I collected all those toys as a kid - beginning with the mail-away Luke and X-Wing right after the first movie came out. Hate it all burned. And I think every kid yearned for a speeder bike as used on Endor (and later even Darth Maul sported a wicked bike, as well.) But not just the technology alone (which was amazingly cool) but the original trilogy just had such a cool story-line. Yeah - mistakes were made. Hindsight's 20/20. Who hasn't mockingly quoted "...from a certain point of view..." or whiningly immitated Luke: "I'll never join you!" I know me and my friends certainly did. Don't matter - we still loved it. And any movie(s) that you walk away from with just so many freaking great quotes literally screams good writing. “Hokey religions and ancient weapons are no match for a good blaster at your side, kid.” ~Han Solo “Fear is the path to the dark side. Fear leads to anger; anger leads to hate; hate leads to suffering. I sense much fear in you.” ~ Yoda "I felt a great disturbance in the Force...as if millions of voices suddenly cried out in terror, and were suddenly silenced." ~ Obi-wan Kenobi "You are far too trusting. Dantooine is too remote to make an effective demonstration, but don't worry. We will deal with your rebel friends soon enough." ~ Grand Moff Tarkin

R2 Toto?
I feel Chris has a good point about the quotability of a great script.
Regarding technology vs storyline, George Lucas said that a lot of people thought Star Wars was popular because of all the blasters, droids, starships, space battles and lasers etc, but, he stressed, the real core was actually the characters and family soap opera elements. Hope I got that right. Long time since I saw the interview where he spoke about that.
