Hopefully this image will work Update: Initially I can see the image, but after I sign out it disappears! I can still find the image if I right-click where the image should be (the blue-box with the ?) and 'Open image in New Window'. That should work.Fixed -Jason

I read that page already. It's a pretty good one (Conan's blackly humorous line was funny).

So I got the issue. It pretty much ends the story. The fight between Conan and Jenhugir was pretty good and the guy was able to go down with dignity (or as much dignity as one can given the circumstances.)
The ending with Octavia is mixed. I mentioned that the original ending was rather sleazy. He basically grabs her and holds her even as she struggles, kissing her until she relents.
Honestly, scenes like that are....well kinda rapey. A LOT of rapists have carried out their crimes because they had a "oh she didn't really mean it when she said no" attitude. Having Octavia relent AFTER struggling for a little bit does kinds fall into that. I doubt that was Howard's intention and he's certainly done feminist work (and was one himself) but the scene was still kinda sleazy.
Here octavia kinda resists for like two seconds but she relents so quickly that you could actually argue that she WAS attracted and didn't want to admit it. It's weird but a lot less unpleasant.
One thing that kinda intrigued me in the original tale was that Khostra dies outright during the clash. Here Conan wounds him, Khostra tries to run, Conan pursues and kills the fucker. I....don't know what to make of it.
And that reminds me. Another tale is done.
Of the stories the only ones left after Shadows in Zamboula are the Black and Red trilogy, Drums of Tombalku, Vale of Lost Women and Pool of the Black One.
At this point I'd release the later three as independent miniseries (or Vale as a one shot issue) and do the Black and Red as a series. THEN you do Conan's last adventure.

...what?

Has Dark Horse adapted Beyond the Black River?
I can't recall if they have.

Not yet. I think Tim Truman hinted he wanted to do it, but that ship has sailed.

That would have been great, I'd like for Truman to do the art too, ideally.

Where did he say that it was impossible? Tomas has left but Tim's given no indication far as I know

From what I remember, on his site, Tim had mentioned he'd wanted to do more, but DH seemed unreceptive.

I have a wait and see. I think at this point there best option is to release the black and red as miniseries.

I have a wait and see. I think at this point there best option is to release the black and red as miniseries. Creatively, yes, but they're also running a business. If they don't have a Conan comic coming out regularly that's roughly 6,000 damn-near guaranteed issues sold a month (not to mention the advertising within each issue). Plus, they paid for the license, they might as well get all the blood from the stone that they can. It's not ideal, and I'd much rather see quality over quantity ar this point, but that's business.

Maybe's it's all for the best the title will be taking a break, look how long it takes me to get a hold of an issue when it does come out! Anyway, decent ending and overall a good adaptation. Nothing groundbreaking, but these days a consistent adaptation done by the regular creative team is a step in the right direction.

Yeah, I agree. Tim Truman's one of the few in the business who could handle it all himself; art, writing, inking and colouring. It would be a truly iconic adaption if it ever came to pass. His rendition of Slasher would be worth the price of admission alone.
