I came across Frank Frazetta's work in the early 80's when I was a kid. I don't remember the first actual time I saw a Frazetta, but I remember seeing them on the covers of the Ace/Lancer Conan books, and magazines, even a copy of those old Ballantine collections in a library or somewhere.

Interesting auction results from Intelligent Collector on an original 1968 Frank Frazetta piece. Better have deep pockets if you want an original Frazetta!
"His original art for Popular Library’s 1968 re-issue of Manly Wade Wellman’s 1946 tale The Solar Invasion sold for $262,900 at a November 2012 auction." Read more at Intelligent Collector's site.

I remember reading the underwood books on Frazetta, and of how note was made on his early artistic influences which included Hal Foster, Norman Rockwell, Al Williamson, Al Capp, NC Wyeth, Howard Pyle, also classical artists like Rubens. Another noteworthy influence was the Czech artist Zdenek Burian who painted scenes of dinosaurs and prehistoric cavemen, also some adventure novels.

I'm actually going to be in the Poconos next week and might be going to Shawnee which I think is not far from the museum. Might not have time this trip, but I'll mention it to Milla. She wants to get Adrian more introduced to art so why not start with one of the greats! Plus one of the scenes in Playing With Fire was shot in the Lundy's restaurant that now houses the Russian supermarket her and her mother go to all the time (the café is currently closed for renovations...for the past two years!), so that put him on her radar.
As a follow-up, the café where Frank ate in the movie has finally reopened...as a flower shop. How times change...

Whoa! Check out this rarity from early in Frank's paperback cover career. Interior art by Krenkel...

Omg I’ve had the edition for years! Wrap that baby! ISFDB says its Krenkel, but I've never seen RGK work quite like that. It looks more like Frank's early movie poster work. People I trust say it's Frazetta. Frank and Roy collaborated pretty often during that period, so it might be a collab, but I'll bet the farm that the cover isn't pure RGK. The Lion and the City look like Frazetta.
