Those are interesting links. It really is easy to underestimate the impact that a broad circle can have on the work of one man - Heisenberg was a brilliant physicist, but without Bohr, Schrodinger, and the rest, I don't know what he would have done. Likewise Robert Howard's worlds feel so Howardian that it's difficult to imagine other authors having had that much of an impact on his work, yet it would seem that the threads of each one's writing are scattered across the others' work.
(Actually I did laugh.)
