David Drake has written an S&S tale set in Italy. The protagonist is a Gaul in the army of Brennus. The story is free here: www.tor.com/2016/08/18/up-from-hell/I enjoyed it quite a bit. Thanks for pointing this out, Deuce. David Drake won me over with his story in Thieves' World Volume 2: Tales of the Vulgar Unicorn, "Goddess," and I've been wanting to read more short fiction by him. Ralph Grasso on the Pulp Sword & Sorcery Facebook group gave his nod to this collection of Drake's historical s&s tales a while back - www.amazon.com/Vettius-His-Friends-Drake/dp/0671698028

Just heard this from Robert M. Price: "Gonna adapt a Conan novel outline I wrote, accepted by Sprague de Camp for the TOR series long ago. It will be a Thongor story, "Temple of the Black One."IMO, RMP (who's executor of Lin's estate), writes Thongor as good or better than Carter.

And ironic too, since Lin adapted Thongor tales into Conan stories for the Lancers, no?

This is RMP Conan into Thongor. I think this will work out better all the way around.

I think this could work out pretty good. I wonder if Mr Hocking has considered doing something similar with his unpublished Conan work. Or does it belong to Cabinet still? I think JMR has a couple in the vault as well...

It's been suggested a number of times that I transform Conan and the Living Plague into a non-Conan story. But that can't happen. The book is a true pastiche, like Emerald Lotus it's tied into the Hyborian Age and packed to the ears with references to REH's work, other Weird Tales authors, and the Conan Saga both canon and pastiche. Turning it into a story about another barbarian in another fictional milieu would strip it of its reason to exist. It would emasculate every tribute and turn of phrase designed to lend fannish resonance to the story. Turn it into a tribute to nothing. It's just a pastiche, but it's a Conan pastiche or it's nothing at all.

That is sad to hear, but I can respect your reasons for not doing it.
Now, how about a collection of Archivist stories?

I loved what you did with Emerald Lotus, and I hope to read Living Plague one day. In a perfect world, it would have been published years ago..,
