I enjoy the Malus books. For the most part the writing is very, very good IMO. Of Course its very dark stuff and the world of Warhammer is completely unrealistic. Everyone would surely kill themselves if they found they had to attempt to exist is such an animalistic, dog eat dog universe. In fact, if you are bad, you might not go to hell but go to the world of Warhammer instead if God really wanted to punish you.
Still, if you turn your mind off a bit, these things are pretty entertaining. I would take them over a ton of other modern day fantasy and the action is non stop and about as gore filled as it gets. I might add the recent Solomon Kane movie seems more of a Warhammer adventure than Solomon Kane. Yet, I digress. Anyhow I like old Malus and being as I carry a few demons around inside me, I can relate to the old rascal. And I think he is a bit Conanish. Any opinions pilgrims. I know somebody reads Malus, he has a lot of books out there...alright then amigos!!!

FYI Malus Darkblade is a Warhammer guy, a dark elf. He was bad to begin with but then a demon got inside his body and tasked him with recovering a bunch of ancient relics and return them to the demons temple which is way out in the hell wastes. Along the way Malus gets into all kinds of trouble. He becomes an outlaw, a general, a pawn, etc. Fortunately for him the demon powers him up when really bad trouble comes along. Also Malus has the warpsword which is a powerful weapon of mass destruction. Malus only uses it when he has no other recourse because the sword controls the user, not the other way around. Plus the sword kills everyone in sight, be they friend, foe,or just somebody outwalking their werewolf. Its all very violent...did I say violent...yes. Weirdly enough there is also a good bit of humor served up as Malus cant stop with the wisecracks about the world around him and his utterly ridiculous, if not totally hopeless situation. Malus is a lot more insane than Drizzt and he doesnt spout off goofy elf wisdom that you dont need.

I don't know much about these books, but I know that my son (in his 20's) has read them and loved them. He loves to talk to me about the Warhammer universe but it mostly bounces off of my thick skull. On the other hand, I try to talk to him about Conan, Lankhmar, and Elric and he doesn't get it. I guess we are just in two separate worlds.
I do get the impression that the Warhammer world is quite dark and bloodthirsty and that all sorts of folks are sacrificed to various gods. I like the info you posted a couple of posts up, and maybe I'll try to track these down from my son and give them a shot.

you could do a lot worse than Warhammer...the Malus DArkblade books are enjoyable and I also enjoy the writings of CL Werner...a Howard disciple. Warhammer is so dark it borders on being a bit Silly at times but if you can delve off into that universe there are some nice novels and shorts out there. WAY OF THE DEAD is an anthology that I recommend to newcomers ...lots of quality there and a number of Witch Hunter type tales that remind a lot of Solomon Kane
