...and Sophia Loren as Zenobia. Yep, I could see Sophia as Zenobia or even (maybe) Belit. That's why I posted a pic of El Cid earlier. "King Conan" (aka Hour of the Dragon) starring Heston as an older Conan, Sophia as Zenobia and directed by Anthony Mann with Rosza doing the score. Filmed in Spain. Brynner as Thutothmes and Christopher Lee as Xaltotun, perhaps.

In that era I would for Vincent Price as Xaltotun.

He'd have done a fine job. My plan is coming to fruition. Fiendishly clever, but I expect nothing less.

Hear it in Price's voice:
“Yes, that will be Thak. And in my own gown? The dog!”

Buster Crabbe could have done Conan pretty well IMO

Tony Curtis as Timur, the rebellious Turanian prince (son of Aychichek). Yondah lies da castle of my faddah. ...... Had to google this one... The Black Shield of Falworth has been on quite a few times on freeview recently

Of course, who can forget Ahnie's "Yoo kilt mein muttah und mein faddah!" in CtB?

One of Scorsese's favorites. I have to go with Char-Vell on Price. Better as Nabonidus. Xaltotun was a tall, imposing guy--though not as tall as some have tried to imply--with a sepulchral voice. I still vote for Lee. Price would've worked as Tsotha-Lanti, though, IMO.

Script/screenplay's gotta to be by Harold Lamb.

Script/screenplay's gotta to be by Harold Lamb. If you have that, you can only have one director...C.B. DeMille. Imagine his narration of the opening of Phoenix on the Sword in his "Ten Commandments" voice....*sigh*...

I LOVE this movie. That absurd 1950's Hollywood vision of the Middle Ages. Tony Curtis's hyperactive performance. Janet Leigh's jaw-dropping gorgeousness. That ridiculously rousing score.
And the nicely choreographed final battle between our noble hero and that snarling epitome of base knavery, The Black Knight!
But don't take my word for it, check out the climax right here....
Quality is not the best, but this gives you a good taste of what the film delivers.
If it's all too hokey for you, fast forward to the bit where the villain leaves his guard open and receives a pretty realistic skewering for his trouble. They don't make 'em like this anymore.
