Post the fact that on the cover of this book that Conan looks so damn much like Jack Palance! If i had a choice for an actor to play Conan back in the 1960's say the era of Jason And The Argonauts, Palance would have been outstanding! Back to the book, i'm going to track with this one, Forbidden Planet have it due for release on wednesday, though i normally buy from Amazon UK...

I watched Revak the Rebel awhile back and thought it would have been great to have a Conan flick around that time with Palance.

Can someone tell me how the Savage Sword continuity feeds into the same for the regular 'Barbarian' title? Which one is the leading mythology following Howard's works?

So far they haven’t really made a point of tying the two together in any meaningful way. They both occasionally refer to the REH stories or the previous Marvel stories, like SSOC #6 did. The upcoming #10 by Roy Thomas and Alan Davis is an explicit prequel to People of the Black Circle. Otherwise creating a coherent chronology does not seem to be high on their list of priorities.

I just read the trade. I liked it, but I wasn't crazy about it. The flint lock bothered me, and I could have done with the pirates looking more like Hyborian Age pirates rather than the Pirates of the Caribbean.
The story was OK. It was a pretty by the numbers story. It didn't shake the ground, imo.
I did like the portrayal of Conan. He was captured, and he wouldn't stop. He broke off the dude's finger and used the bone for a lock pick!
I enjoyed that until I started wondering if Conan should even know how to pick a lock--that doesn't seem like the character.
I'd say the book is more hit than miss. I'll keep reading, but it sure is not the big, awesome return to Marvel that I was hoping for. Much of the Dark Horse stuff (but not all) is a tough act to follow.
One thing that is interesting: The Savage Sword collection tells a connected story where as the collection of the main Conan The Barbarian is telling a story that jumps around the timeline of Conan's life. Ironic, that.
I hope Marvel starts doing a better job with Conan.
