Say what you will about the film, and Nispel, at least he cast the right man for the lead, and Momoa delivered. Too bad the convoluted script, Hollyweird's obsession with origin stories and some of the worst editing in a major theatrical film, ever, ruined a potentially entertaining movie. I still like it. In a strange love/hate relationship...

I went to the theater to see it (and I hate friggin 3D!), I bought the official novelization and the Blu-ray when it came out. I wanted this to succeed so that a sequel, possibly under a different director and crew, would happen. Alas, it never came to be. Despite the glaring flaws I still find little nuggets of greatness scattered about in this film that I enjoy. Such incredible potential wasted. Here’s hoping something happens over the next year or so to give us hope for something better to watch and enjoy.

I believe Nispel's description of what the "Hollywood Machine" wanted him to do with the character and casting decisions, and because of that we will probably never get a decent movie. And slightly OT, I really liked Nispel's movie Pathfinder, I thought it had a "Hyborian world/vibe" to it.

I'll never forget I was down the Jersey Shore in Wildwood and in this little hole in the wall theater on the boardwalk that I imagine holds about 10 people, CTB 2011 was playing. Said it all.

1 of the very worst fantasy films /scripts ever crapped out on film. The scriptwriters heads should be nailed above the gates of Tarantia. [ boss malmborg should have got a good script ready before he did a film deal. he just threw his millions away recklessly? ] nispel did not know how to direct momoa to play conan as a powerful Leader of men, with a strong loud commanding voice. [ but it did not matter because the script was very silly shite ] i only saw the dvd. watched it in disgust for 45 mins only. 3 days later i watched the rest of it. I have NEVER viewed it again since! it is that bad, and it pissed me off so much. [ that slop made conaaan the silly joke of all fantasy, and he still is ]

I have tried to watch the movie several times over the years even when it's on freeview, I lose interest within 45 minutes and still have not seen it from beginning to end. At least after the failure of Conan 2011 and the Justice League a couple of years ago Jason Mamoa has finally had some success with the recent Aquaman movie; he deserves a break after working with such clueless filmmakers.

Hey Hun, record it next time its on free. then later, watch it from 45 mins onwards to see the rest. [ view it in 15 min stages if you have to? ] you should see it all so you know just how effing staggeringly crappy it all is. == actually momoa played a pretty good space version of conaaan in stargate atlantis [ a kind of v tough and sexy strong 'barbarian' renegade with a big blaster pistol ], which got him widely liked and noticed. very good in the action scenes but the actor seemed bored, and mumbled a lot with quick unconfident speaking. later, i think the writers got bored with his sloppy characterisation and hardly used him. == momoa as conaan clearly did not know how to portray a very strong confident naturally alpha leader of men with a very commanding voice of authority. [ to me, big tall clever conan would have been a natural strong leader of cimmerian kids ever since he was very young. and small warbands would be happy to follow his mighty leadership when he was about 14+? [ some flashbacks depicting such growing mighty fierce leadership should be in a new tv series, early on. including the attack on Venarium fort.] ==== [ when i told a good friend about that awful crapp film she said "Well obviously the conan owners don't give a shit?" ] it may be increasingly difficult to get any new conan tv or film made, because fantasy fans and makers do not easily forget big sh#t like conan 2011?

Hello Bux. Sorry I should have posted that I have seen no more than 45 minutes in one go, that's really bad considering I'm supposed to be an REH/Conan fan. I agree, it's gonna be increasingly difficult to find a studio willing to produce a new Conan Movie/TV series after Conan 2011.

I have to respectfully disagree, Bux. Momoa was far and away the best part of a poor film, and is the closest thing to Howard's Conan to grace the screen thus far. He had the size, physicality and charisma to pull this off with ease. He moved like a "panther", and was convincingly savage and barbaric. And I think this flop has faded enough from the collective memory of film goers and producers to be considered a viable project once again. It can be done, and done right. I just hope it happens soon...

And I think this flop has faded enough from the collective memory of film goers and producers to be considered a viable project once again. It can be done, and done right. I just hope it happens soon... Hi, momoa did not have the strong commanding charisma of a mighty conan due to the awful script and crappy dialogue, and no personal direction/ voice coaching. [ he was also a lazy mumbler in his interviews back then ] [ but if it had been a good film/script i would not be so picky? ] ==== i was hoping that rich amazon tv would at least do a half-decent job with conan, but they chickened out. [ the huge yellow bastards ] i wonder if that '2011 crapfest' had any influence on the final decision by the mega-rich savages at amazon to abandon their conan tv project? the amazon bosses are so rich and powerful now, are they just playing with film rights/ideas? do they give a sh#t about doing any new project well? ==== it does seem like tv/film conan is under some weird curse? we have NOT had Howard's real Conan depicted well on film or screen yet. [ and most of us keen experienced fans are getting much older? ] [ the wide world has been shown a false /fake /silly conaaan so many times that most folks think that is what the conan franchise wants to depict! some casual film fans have stated that to me before. they found it hard to understand why i kept moaning years ago. now i wont mention it to friends or even try to explain why. ==== we keen Howard fans can still enjoy the stories /books and share our fandom with enthusiastic good humour, and long distance typing friendship. ==

Myself, I always thought Momoa as Conan was ok, and that the main problem was with the script and story, not so much the actor, although I would have picked someone that looked liked he could have come from the Scottish Highlands or Ireland. Momoa makes a convincing barbarian and is a great actor, just not the Cimmerian Gael type I envision for the role. Maybe someone that looked liked Adrian Paul who played Duncan McLeod, but a little taller and more athletic. As for Conan being an alpha leader, always thought that his true leadership qualities came later, although he was no lackey at any time, saw him as the type that could be brooding in the maul in the background, almost quiet, and explode as a fighter when provoked, took no shit type of thing.

It's on in a couple of minutes on Film4.
I'll try to watch the whole movie this time.
