An all-new 12 part Conan serialization by the forum's own John C. Hocking (emerald) is appearing in Marvel's Conan: The Barbarian comic book, (presumably) running in issues #1-12. perilousworlds.com/marvel.comThe first two parts are out and I'm pretty impressed with this. I have a copy of Conan & the Emerald Lotus as it's often mentioned in the same sentence with Karl Edward Wagner's Conan: Road of Kings as being the best of Conan pastiche but have yet to read it. Even though "Black Starlight" is set between Emerald Lotus and the upcoming sequel Conan and the Living Plague I don't really mind as the chapters have been great so far. I'm enjoying it just a stand-alone tale serialized tale. I have to admit, it's pretty cool reading a serialized Conan tale similar to how the Weird Tales readers did back in the 1930's and I really hope Marvel continues this practice in their future Conan books.

I've enjoyed the first two instalments and am looking forward to the next. In all honesty I like the prose more than the comic at this point so I'll continue buying it until the end of the story.
It puts me in mind that there should be a journal of Conan pastiches. Ideally monthly, but I'd settle for quarterly.

Really liking this pastiche, it's a real bummer that the chapters are so damn short tho. Conan sure is ugly on that art you posted Jason Aiken!

Thanks to any and all who take the time to read Black Starlight.
Some installments will be a bit longer than others, but it'll stay right around 1500 words per issue for its full 12 month duration. Probably not the ideal way to read a novella, but I worked to make the tale build and break at the appropriate points so it ought to flow pretty well.
Things start to heat up in the third section, and I promise a hell-for-leather brutal climax when we get to the end.

My agent likened it to writing "action haiku".

Enjoyed the third part of Black Starlight.
Hopefully, Marvel will adapt these yarns in CtB or SSOC.

I hope to read the third part of Black Starlight this week-end, but have thoroughly enjoyed the first two parts. It has been a nice read with a good moderate pace, and I always look/hope for another two pages.

Long time forum lurker here. Decided to register to let everyone know how psyched I am for having new John C. Hocking content, even if in small doses.
Currently reading Conan and the Emerald Lotus and I can't wait for the new John C. Hocking novel that is supposedly forthcoming. We need more Conan pastiches !

Third chapter is great, fantastically vivid action. And again I enjoyed it much more than the comic!

Conan the Barbarian #4 will feature the chunkiest installment of Black Starlight yet. It’s actually bigger— Marvel had to change the margins and pull both the summary and the dedication just to make it fit this time around.
And it’s more horrific—as the weird forces pitted against the Cimmerian take a shuddering step forward out of deepest darkness...
Hope you take a look.

Read part 4 this morning.
Nice to see 3 whole pages devoted to the prose for a change.
The supernatural element is truly terrifying - absolutely loved it and I'll probably read all 4 parts again tonight. Can't wait till these yarns get collected by Perilous Worlds.
I know I have posted this before but Marvel should consider getting Jason Aaron to adapt these yarns after the 'Life and Death of Conan' story-arc.
