Disappointing, but necessary. Beyond the physical concerns of cover, well-designed interior, any maps that might be commissioned, printing and binding, and distribution, a book needs 6-9 months *minimum* to make the rounds of the trades, gather reviews and quotes, and build buzz. It will be a better book for it. The presentation and reception will go a long way in cementing the publishing program at Perilous Worlds as a legitimate venture and not just some fly-by-night cash grab. Yeah, admittedly, sometimes I can be a little impatient with these kinda things. Thanks for the post, Scott.

Perilous Worlds have gone awfully quiet about a release date for this book.

Even a book cover would be nice.

Yeah, they are handling this incredibly poor, unfortunately! They should know that a good cover can help sell a book! My fine services are available if they need some art.
And the cover price is an oddity. Book Depository had this listed for pre-order not long ago for $10, but is supposedly "No longer available"? Amazon wants $20 for it! Huh?

Oh shit, is this out!? I completely missed the release date. So those crappy covers we all thought were place holders are the actual covers!

No, no . . . not out yet! Crappy covers remain placeholders. New covers are being commissioned. Pierce Watters, the sales manager at Paizo Publishing and an industry veteran, has taken over as publisher; it's taken a bit of time to get the previous mess sorted, but PW/Cabinet will have representatives at the Frankfurt Book Fair next week, so yay! I'm not speaking as a representative of the company, just as a very interested bystander

And now I've received a cancellation from Amazon stating they will, unfortunately, not be able to secure any stock!

And Paizo stepped in? Long web silences can be precursor to business ceasing operations; is Perilous Worlds dead? They have been quiet for awhile... -Another very interested bystander.

To my knowledge, Perilous Worlds is doing fine, albeit moving forward slowly. Paizo is not involved, but the Pierce still works as their director of sales. There was a boondoggle with the first launch that required pulping an entire print run, taking a step back, and starting over with new art, etc. That's why all previous orders have been cancelled. Hopefully, they'll post an update before the end of the year.
For reference, it takes an established publishing house anywhere from 9-14 months to get a title ready to stock on store shelves. Some headlines based books can be done faster, but most like a good lead time in order to sell as many copies to vendors as possible (point to remember: publishers do not sell to readers -- they sell to bookstores and chains who then sell to readers). So, they need to set up their distribution networks, get some marketing folks to do their thing, PR folks, too . . . OR, sell the rights to someone like Tor (which was what they did previously, in the 80s). I don't know if they're planning something like that or not. It's what I'd do, though.
Hope this helps.
