Fred Blosser , Silken Swords: An Informal Guide to the Women in the Fiction of Robert E. Howard, Pulp Hero Press 2019
Lethal Lovelies Steel-thewed barbarians. Two-fisted adventurers. Cold-blooded sorcerers. These are the heroes and villains of Robert E. Howard. But it wasn't all testosterone and loincloths. In REH's worlds, the ladies were sometimes as deadly as the men. REH scholar Fred Blosser provides an A-Z encyclopedia of every female character in Robert E. Howard's fiction, from Conan's Belit, Valeria, and Yasmela, to dozens of hags, harlots, and hussies, as well as the occasional demure damsel and distaff destroyer. Blosser assigns each woman to an archetype: elder, maiden, servant, supernatural being, temptress, warrior, witch. Taken together, these archetypes encompass the feminine gamut not just of REH fiction but of sword-and-sorcery in general, and are a useful tool for further scholarship. These ladies don't do the dishes. Amazon: www.amazon.com/Silken-Swords-Informal-Fiction-Robert/dp/1683901991/www.amazon.co.uk/Silken-Swords-Informal-Fiction-Robert/dp/1683901991/

oh i hope marvel dont read that book? or they may churn out lots of crappy comics loosely based on many more REH females? [ what about the handsome strong busty Madame 'Fellati Ironflaps' who runs the Harem for king conan, with spanking and whipping strictness? and she teaches the girls cleanliness against many diseases? the king goes to her when he needs his monthly spanking punishment? ] [[oops, sorry, i have broken the main rule : sex diseases should never be mentioned when telling tales of male heroes chasing many women. the safe romping fantasies must be protected from reality. ]] ==== thanks Hun.

is that due to strict abstinence? or powerful magic healing potions? ==== >> which is your fave REH female, and why?

is that due to strict abstinence? or powerful magic healing potions? ==== >> which is your fave REH female, and why? Natala. she may not have been a fighting badass, she had strength of spirit. Thalis was pretty cool tool, if you like evil, same goes for Tascela. The Settler woman in BtBR that tells Balthus "Come in, we'll hold the cabin!" captured my imagination.

Even though I wasn't invited, I have to answer, can't resist. It's a hard choice. I'd probably say the Devi Yasmina. Beautiful, with a sense of responsibility and honour, but also passionate and capable of vengeful fury over her brother's murder. And she's courageous even in the face of nightmare. Tied for second place in my estimation are Dark Agnes and Red Sonja. Both redheads, both fighting hellcats, both (always a plus for me) operating in an actual historical milieu, and also, by my estimation, exact contemporaries, even born in the same year. They share fierce, individualistic self-respect and that's great too. But they still come in just behind Yasmina for my money. Of course the Buxom Sorceress beats 'em all.
