We in Victoria, especially Melbourne, have had one of the longest Covid lockdowns in the world. I will not get into the stink of the politics, the inquiries, legal challenges and the rest of it, we are slowly and painfully now dragging ourselves out of it step by step, but we have had the whole works, curfews, draconian restrictions on movement, ban of retail businesses, mandatory masks as soon as you step out of front door, work permits to be in the CBD, heavy fines and just the general pseudo police state nonsense. Amusing that at one time Melbourne was known in many circles as 'the most liveable city' in the world. In comparison, the rest of Australia has remained relatively free of most of what we have had to endure in Melbourne. I'm not posting this to start some whine session about it all, but just wanted to share some pics of what the formerly busy districts looked like now.

Eventually people will just refuse to comply. We are already seeing that here, the view that if they try to keep imposing more and harsher restrictions people will ignore them. These lockdowns were supposed to make sure the hospitals were not overwhelmed. But the taste of power and control is too much for the ones in charge and they wish to impose more and more upon us. Here some are open about using this to destroy the existing social framework and replace it with their idea of a perfect society...

Was it Frank Herbert of Dune fame who said that it's not that power corrupts, it's that power is a magnet to the corrupted and corruptible. As for a perfect society - there's always been a tragic irony in the suffering that results when the imperfect try to create perfection, even with the best of intentions. They want to fix the world before they have fixed themselves. And one person's utopia is another person's dystopia.

In my home state we have already had a few small businesses 'rebel' and open up early in defiance of the emergency measures.

Exactly, that's why I am weary of the more ideologically inclined movements, give me the good ol 'imperfect' free market democracy with it's checks and balances any day.

Well, today is a fantastic day for Melbourne, with such low cases they have just announced that we are open for business come Wednesday, and the dreaded four reasons to live your home will be binned. Further the 25 kilometer travel limit from your home will be removed in the next week or so, work permits scrapped, so we are free to go about our business in the city and in the regional areas at long last. ‘We did it’: Victorians react to end of COVID-19 lockdown' www.news.com.au/finance/work/leaders/melbourne-lockdown-to-end-as-daniel-andrews-announces-restriction-ease/news-story/6afbff2a06e32ee4af71f00bcab08aa4'Long-suffering Victorians have finally got the news they’ve waited so long to hear, after Premier Daniel Andrews announced the state’s reopening from midnight tomorrow.' All that's left is for interstate travel to reopen, some states have opened their borders again, and of course the mandatory mask thing, we only have that in Victoria, but that will further down the track before that is changed. All in all, I'm happy that some things are at least moving along. Feel bad that in the northern hemisphere they are going back into the lockdown hell again. Trust me, we in Melbourne know what that is like now. That's the thing, freedoms can be removed so quickly, but it's a hard and slow slog to get them back.

Having experienced one of the longest lockdowns in the world initiated by our socialist oriented state premier I would not wish these draconian and communist measures on any freedom loving person. So much news coverage on the US presidential election at the moment. I know one thing, if I was voting in the states I would go for the guy with the best chance of letting me keep some of my freedoms. Simple as that. Biden smacks of covid fear mongering, restrictions, business closures, social distancing indoctrination, long term mask mandates and lockdowns. Trump is far from prefect, but it seems that the alternative is much worse. No one should be able to tell you when you can leave your home, how far you can travel, for what reason you can leave, how long you can be out and who you can and can't see. There is nothing normal about a 'Covid normal'. 'The Welsh Government has been criticised after banning supermarkets from selling 'non-essential' items such as clothing and books during Wales' fire-break lockdown. Paul Davies MS said: "Since the First Minister let it slip that the selling of non-essential items would be banned in all shops during the Wales-wide lockdown there has been anger across Wales. "It is madness that people have been banned from buying books, bins and baby clothes in local shops. The Welsh Labour-led Government may not think these items are essential, but many will beg to differ." Andrew RT Davies, shadow health minister for the Welsh Conservatives, labelled the ban as "ludicrous". "I never thought I'd live in an era where aisles in supermarkets were blanked off because you couldn't buy hairdryers or you couldn't buy baby clothes, or toys for children, when the store is open," he said.' www.itv.com/news/wales/2020-10-24/criticism-mounts-over-ludicrous-ban-of-non-essential-items-in-welsh-supermarketsFor instance, how would one be spreading a virus by say picking up a copy of REH's Conan. Madness.

Sometimes I think I will wake up and realize that 2020 was a long dystopian movie. As soon as the zombies emerge (no doubt spurred by an experimental vaccine) and begin eating everyone, I will wake up and it will be December 2019 again.
