Why the need for the next to last sentence? As if somebody who'd be writing something these days to contribute to it would be doing that? Is that how the magazine is viewed by people today who even knew it existed? Would Red Nails, Red Shadows or Pigeons From Hell make the cut taking this into account? I just don't know...

As someone on Twitter said, if he thought the original was so terrible, why is he resurrecting it?
But it hardly matters. This version will crash and burn in a couple of years.

Well snap, there's go any chance of me submitting a story Let me guess, no Margaret Brundage-esque covers, either. Because that would be sexist, right?

Which is of course the first thing we all think of when we hear the words Weird Tales...

Are there still some kind of rights to be obtained concerning Weird Tales, or can any jabroni use the title?

Don't they try to resurrect Weird Tales every few years and it always fails? It never works because no matter how much talking gets done, no one's able to assemble a lineup that measures up to the original.

Here's a few other nuggets I've gleaned from scrolling editor Jonathan Maberry (@jonathanmaberry) twitter feed:
I'm currently curating each issue. We'll likely open to submissions in 2020. Stay tuned! We're publishing flash (up to 800 words), poetry, and shorts from 4-8k. But we're not open to submissions yet. Currently everything is curated.
We're print only, but a Kindle edition will happen a little bit down the road
Other notes: current issue currently being shipped, and he anticipates being open for submissions mid-2020.

As you might imagine since twitter is a fire-blasted hellscape, there's much arguing and accusations going on in the twitter from both sides of political spectrum, so the above few sentences are pretty much everything of value to be gleaned there.
But, since it's an issue that came up, he responded to this one question:
RE: the racism/sexism/homophobia statement:
So, it was brought back because of name recognition but the things it was recognized for, racism, sexism, homophobia, are no longer a part of it? Why not just start a new title without that baggage?

Jonathan Maberry Verified account @jonathanmaberry Because it was known for far MORE than those things. We’re celebrating its greatness as well as moving forward

FWIW, my interest is that Weird Tales is such an iconic part of the history of S&S as well as horror and fantasy, and it's a dream of mine to be published in it, and I once submitted a story to them in the early 2000's and got a nice letter back with some constructive feedback, which is pretty rare.
Plus, always looking out for good print sources of pulp/S&S/adventure fiction, and Skelos appears to be completely dead. I'm all-in with Tales from the Magician's Skull, but will keep an eye on this one to see where it goes...
Mick.

But why bring it up then? Oh well...
Hopefully the Kindle's gonna be a little cheaper!

But why bring it up then? Oh well... Hopefully the Kindle's gonna be a little cheaper! Man I haven't quite made the leap to kindle fiction... I have the app on my phone and ipad, but since I have a phone and ipad, i just surf news and forums I like. But you're not wrong... for that price, for a magazine, maybe I need to ask for one for Xmas! (Going to continue get Magician's Skull in print, however, b/c it's so cool w/ the art and maps!)

Well I for one am absolutely relieved there won't be any racism, sexism, or homophobia. Now if only they would address the problematic fat-shaming and get rid of all that nasty violence, I could read it out loud without my life partner of ambiguous gender being triggered.

It's far more than those things . . . but those are the first things he mentions.

Hmmm...I would be interested in coming up with something to submit next year. But maybe I'll hang out a bit on the outside and see just what they are interested in publishing. I'm all for the return of Weird Tales and any magazine that can bring back some good old pulp horror and adventure, but the history has been a little spotty, so we'll see...
