Review by Kevin Given at comiccrusaders.com:
Synopsis:
Kulan Gath was forced to retreat, but can our hero’s claim victory? The savage barbarian Conan, a warrior displaced in time, has acquired the third eye of Agamotto, but he has been warned by both Victor Von Doom and Dr. Steven Strange not to underestimate its power. A great walled city has appeared out of nowhere in the Egyptian Desert. Could this be Kulan Gath’s new lair? The unlikely trio of heroes has decided to investigate. Dr. Doom, in his quest for power, did not heed his own warning and seized the amulet, to dire consequences.
The Creative Team:
Gerry Dugan unleashes the action with this issue. If the previous issue didn’t have enough action for you Marvelettes, this one more than makes up for it. I love how Marvel is returning to form with several of its titles. This is one of my favorites from the house of ideas. I never thought I’d like having Conan in the present-day marvel-verse, What if # 13 notwithstanding, but Conan fits with these savages perfectly. I love the banter between Conan and Dr. Doom, it’s almost as if our Barbarian were an ancestor to our Latveran monarch. This comic definitely lives up to the savage in its title as all characters show no mercy to achieve their goals Kulan Gath is one of the best Marvel villains to emerge in recent years and his bloodthirst is a strong reason to add this title to your collection. Not for the faint of heart. Great stuff includes Gath’s resistance to our hero’s attack and the astral projection battle between Gath and Strange.
Patch Zircher continues to bring these iconic characters to us with a savagery unparalleled in the Marvel Universe. Marvel has pulled out all the stops in its attempt to please us life-long fans and I am thankful to them for doing it. I love Zircher’s Conan as much as I loved Big John Buscems’ and it’s good to see Victor Von Doom back to being the insane megalomaniac that made him such a great character in the first place. Zircher’s take on these characters is the best it’s been in years! Highlights include the splash of Conan, and friend attacking Kulan Gath and the final splash with the fate of Stephen Strange.
In Conclusion:
Superhero comics done the way they used to be done. No political influence, no contemplative regrets on the past or reflections about what could have been and could be, just good old fashioned action and adventure. Marvel may be playing along with the political atmosphere that has infiltrated todays comic books, but they also haven’t forgot what made them great in the first place. This is an excellent read and an original tale with all the excitement that most comic books used to be about. Thank you Marvel for remembering those of us that made you great in the first place. ****1/2 9.6 rating
SCORE: 4.5/5

Savage Avengers has become my favourite Marvel title featuring Conan. I figure if they are not going to do SSOC in the right way we might as well enjoy a good ol Marvel superheroes team up title. Look at that ‘Death to Kulan Gath’ blurb on the cover, you know you have to read this, has that cool 70’s to 90’s look about it. People see Dr Doom, Doc Strange and Conan on the cover and they think ‘ I have to check that out’. This is both modern and retro, just timeless. Reminds me a little of Marvel covers like this one I appreciate that part.

Yeah, it's good ol' fashioned Marvel fun with a last page that actually makes you wanna read the next issue - something that has been sadly lacking in the main book by Jason Aaron.

SAVAGE AVENGERS #10 Review: comicbook.com/comics/2020/02/12/new-comic-reviews-dc-marvel-image/#5Savage Avengers #10 has some great moments, but somehow it doesn’t feel fulfilling by issue’s end. The exchanges between Doctor Strange, Doctor Doom, and Conan are what propel the book, and writer Gerry Duggan is clearly having fun writing their banter, but it’s the overall storyline that just feels meandering. This trip as a whole is just kind of boring, which shouldn’t be the case with characters like Doom, Strange, and Conan. Artist Patch Zircher and colorist Java Tartaglia deliver some stellar pages though, and good lord their Shuma-Gorath is terrifying, but again, the narrative framing it all together just isn’t that interesting, and by issue’s end there’s not a big enough hook to keep you moving to the next issue. Savage Avengers has some fun parts, but there’s still something holding it back from its full potential. -- Matthew Aguilar

I have no idea what it takes to kill Kulan Gath, I mean you can throw all sorts of spells at him, burn him a number of times, chop of his limbs, and he still keeps coming at you. Fun read as usual. Conan mentioned something about searching for the Ebony blade, I take it he meant the enchanted sword wielded by Dane Whitman the modern Black Knight. I would like to see Conan go up against the Black Knight, should make for a good fight.

I finished reading #10 and can't believe Gerry Duggan wrote Conan 2099 now... Conan's dialogue in this issue was horrible. Conan shouting "The Sword of Conan!" Was so cringe.
Aside from that I thought it was a cool comic. Sweet fight scenes with both magic and science flying everywhere.

We didn’t get to see that kiss, but there was some hint that Electra and Dr Strange got up to more than that.
Anyway, Doc Strange using Kulan Gaths’s blood to follow the dark sorcerers past kind of reminded me of how the Bene Gesserit from the Dune series of books used other memory, a kind of genetic recall process to tap into the memories of their female ancestors.

Just finished reading #11 and I really enjoyed it. IMO if you're going to bring the Hyborian Age into the Marvel Universe again, this issue is a good example of how to do it. Notice, Conan just appeared in a flashback I thought the art was fine, and Duggan's dialogue and writing were solid in both eras. Is this Hyborian Age Sorcerer Supreme an all-new character? Or is he from classic Marvel? Either way, I liked how he was handled, same with Kulan Gath being a cannibal, a nice twist on him. He's no longer a poor man's Thoth-Amon, although he was apparently a disciple of his.
