I like the series, but more as a 1980's/1990's style Marvel heroes comic than anything else.

Read Savage Avengers #0, I thought the new bookends with Doctor Strange and Magik were good, but the reprints from Uncanny X-Men were my favorite part of this special. Claremont gave you your money's worth, these were not quick reads, and he wrote Hyborian Age era Marvel dialogue fairly well. Seeing a young John Romita Jr pencilling this was cool, too.
Did this "event" happen across multiple titles? For instance were there Spider-Man and Avengers issues set on Hyborian Aged Manhattan?
It should be interesting to see how Magik will fit into all this.

The Kulan Gath takeover stayed in X-men for just the two issues #190-191. These days it would’ve been a line wide event.

Then again, back then they did just kind of throw you right into the story. You're right today each title would have a tie-in and there would be a main six issue mini, at least. This was a lot of fun, though.

Savage Avengers #0 For some reason the whole thing about Kulan Gath trying to turn the world back into the Hyborian Age ( starting with Manhattan ) kinda reminded me of the ‘The Hour of the Dragon’, the part about the resurrected sorcerer Xaltotun and how he wanted to go about bringing back the ancient Empire of Acheron.

Read Empyre: Savage Avengers last night, it was okay, but really nothing of substance. It was kind of cool seeing Atali, but it turned out it was just Conan suffering the effects of some poison dart.
Venom showed up so it could be labeled a Savage Avengers comic, but boy did he seem off. It's been a long time since I read a Spider-Man comic, but when did Eddie Brock start talking like that? He seemed more like Peter Parker.

Love that Chadwick Boseman tribute on the cover. That poor guy, what a fighter, though. I'm glad to see Savage Avengers back in the solicits. I actually missed this book. It's a nice way to still keep a toe dipped into the Marvel Universe.

I just finished reading this. It started off not completely up to par with previous issues but The middle segment was action packed because you see Conan doing what he does best. I'm also glad to see Wolverine again, He's up there as one of my top 3 comic characters (Along with Conan and Batman). Edit: Conan also learns Spanish

Quick fun read as usual. Nice art too. With Dr Strange and Daimon Hellstrom they probably should have called it Savage Defenders.

Savage Avengers really isn't bad. I just read it and I am definitely looking forward to the next issue however, I do have some minor quibbles:
1. Does anyone find these reads a bit too short? It seems as if there hasn't been much action these past 3 or 4 issues and I do feel one of the major reasons could be that they take time to introduce too many new characters. I think it would've been better if they had all just stuck with the original team like the first 5 issues but that's just me. Nevertheless, I still absolutely love this title, maybe even more than the main title.
2. The characterization of Conan is just... off. I can't really tell what it is but it could be that they characterize him as a brawny bodybuilder with no remorse and goes berserk just because he can. In a way that is Conan but there's much more to him that they aren't implicating.
3. Too many subplots. I think this may be a technique to spread the stories over multiple issues but I'd rather they just end the whole Kulan Gath thing and go on with a completely separate adventure if necessary. I think they are overrating Gath because Conan did kill him, more than once but at least they provided a reason for why he was so powerful.
