- Michael Schenker -- - beautiful soaring instrumental. - recently, i have been catching up with Michaels adventures with 'temple of rock' albums. the brilliant guitar godling has rocked and delighted me in his early years with scorpions, ufo, and msg.

It's John Paul Jones' 71st b-day! Here's a great gig he did with Them Crooked Vultures. Just an extraordinary talent.

-- -- CRUCIFIED BARBARA are a good swedish rock metal band. i enjoy their great singer, and heavy music aggressions and rocky fun. [ a lot of their music reminds me of the spirit of motorhead ?] There are plenty of their songs + live on youtube.

Nice! They sound a bit like a cross between Iron Maiden and Lita Ford.

Been delving into two of the latest "Super Deluxe Edition" box sets: The Who's My Generation and Cream's Fresh Cream. The main attraction for these sets are the inclusion of both stereo and mono mixes of each album, along with bonus tracks.
On the My Generation set, there are so many bonus tracks, you can actually make an "unreleased" Who album out of the material (The Who Can't Explain!) They had to do some tinkering on the stereo tracks since some overdubs were done directly onto the mono tapes, but for the most part they blended in fairly well.
On Fresh Cream, you get mono, stereo, a number of mixes from French EPs and a bunch of new mixes. One thing that stands out: the original stereo mix of Fresh Cream was really, really bad! This was in the early days of stereo, but they put the backing track on one side, the solo guitar or harmonica on the other and the voice in the middle. Listening to it with earphones is annoying, it sounds like one of your buds is cutting out! Due to how it was recorded there's only so much they could do to fix it, but the new mixes on several songs made those songs sound better.
Looking forward to Easter (due to my traditional Lenten denial of digital media acquisition) when I can pick up the latest Hendrix release. Yes, dead 46 years and still pumping them out! This one is a pre-Experience live set recorded in lovely Hackensack, NJ from December 26, 1965 with Curtis Knight and the Squires (briefly known as the Lovelights). I listen to the set every year post Christmas in the versions Ed Chalpin put out, but this time it's got Eddie Kramer and Bernie Grundman doing their magic on it so it'll sound the best it'll probably ever sound.

Rory would've been 69yrs old today. This vid has a long slide acoustic set starting out, then Rory pulls out the Strat:
