I wonder how ancient is the cursed sword, obviously forged in the twilight of pre human civilizations.

This type of story about a cursed sword that maddens or influence the wielder has been done many times ere. Even in Conan comics its been done already. There's a Savage Sword issue that focuses on a magic sword.

Off the top of my head I can also think of at least two issues of the original CtB stories with cursed swords as the theme, both of which were filler issues I think.

An old plot motif, think Elric's Stormbringer, but still entertaining.

There was also a Conan mini-series in the late 90s with this theme, and there looks to be some kind of evil symbiote sword in Savage Avengers right now. Zub's run has been entertaining enough so far, but it's plots have been pretty generic. I'd like to see him push outside of his DnD comfort zone more.

Totally forgot about that one. One of the two mini series I don't have copies of.

Here's a quick preview of issue 19 as it hasn't been posted here as yet. Thanks Danieljames495. Just read this issue and it's a pretty good start by Jim Zub and Cory Smith. The art by Smith is a vast improvement on Roge Antonia and Luca Pizzari. Maybe, this title is starting to look and feel like a Conan comic at last.

Thinking they'll be right on track by the big 300th issue. But yes, I completely agree, Cory Smith's art looks great!

I remember my thought process looking at this. I saw the pencil sketches and thought "this looks phenomenal", then I saw the Preview and I thought "Still good but I think the colors kinda ruined it". Then I read the actual comic and realized it's great and the preview didn't do it justice. Definitely one of the better issues so far.

Reviews for Conan The Barbarian #19: It’s an excellent beginning to a new arc, with resolutions of the previous issues and staging the future obstacles Conan will have to overcome. Now that Conan has Meiwei alongside him, how will he manage the chaos in his life while also defending an innocent scholar? Unless there is more to her than we know! This reviewer is genuinely excited to continue this series.
Rating 4/5Link to full review: butwhythopodcast.com/2021/03/10/review-conan-the-barbarian-issue-19/The latest series of complications in Conan’s story unfold in a way that is bloody, emotional, and surprisingly essential. After being taken prisoner by the land's imperial guards, Conan is forced to use his wits and instincts to some significant lengths. In the grand scheme of things, this issue is relatively small-scale, but there’s an intriguing beauty in that, allowing the characterization of Conan himself and those around him to really flourish. This issue is being heralded as a good jumping-on point for new or returning readers—and for good reason. If Jim Zub, Cory Smith, and company keep up the kind of storytelling present in this issue, then we could be on the cusp of some genuinely great Conan storytelling. -- Jenna Anderson
