Has anyone here watched any of this one? I saw the first episode and I wasn't overly impressed. A typical Netflix mumblefest IMO, with poor pacing and no clear focus.

First few episodes were a bit of a slog as they were introducing so many characters but came together for me in E4 , by the end I wanted more.

Just watched the first two episodes. It's not great but the budget is fairly high. I'll look forward to episode 4 once these intros are done and Worldbuilding is set up.
I like how using magic seems to come with a price, though.
Cavell doesn't seem like the best fit for the lead to me. I always thought from the games he was older and more grizzled.

We've watched the first three and think it's getting better each time. To be fair, it's difficult to add in all the world building without slowing the pace. And, not having read the books, we did get a bit confused with the timelines.
However I thought the fight scenes were nicely done, especially the one at the end of Ep 1. So we'll stick with it, see how the whole season pans out. Does make me hungry for a decent REH adaptation, though!

Yeah I thought something was wonky with the timelines, then realized each main character's story was taking place during different time periods and then that straightened it out.
Episode 3 was really good and episode 4 onward have been a lot of fun. This kind of seems like a medieval fantasy version of the Supernatural TV series, but I'm liking it.
The episode with Geralt at the betrothal ceremony was probably the best one so far.
As for a decent REH adaptation, Amazon really missed the boat on that Conan series I think. They could have had this...but I think the Conan property is too damaged now and studios don't see a lot of value in it.

That's what everyone has been saying - The first couple episodes are really slow, but then it really picks up. A friend of mine convinced me to watch it, as he said episodes 3 - 8 are very good, so I'm going to check it out soon.

The timeline/worldbuilding aspect is clearly a problem given the number of videos on youtube trying to explain things to keep people from not finishing the series.

The timeline/worldbuilding aspect is clearly a problem given the number of videos on youtube trying to explain things to keep people from not finishing the series. Yeah, people like us can get through it and even pick up on it but I'm not sure the average viewer would have the patience.
I knew something was up when they were talking about that Queen, who was clearly a seasoned veteran, just starting to win battles during the humpback's storyline. Then once the brother and sister from Geralt's storyline with the incest showed up in the Humpback's story that placed hers before the rest, and then during the betrothal ceremony it was obvious the princess' storyline was at least 10 years in the future of that.
For fans like us it's no problem, but for normal people they definitely needed to throw up some years across the screen. I think they overestimated the normal folk.

Hang in there, buddy. I finished episode 8 this morning and I'm ready to start reading the novels. I'm pretty impressed actually.

I enjoyed the first two episodes. Great characters, good action and some twists on the usual themes of S&S. Geralt in actions and attitude reminds me of Solomon Kane. I'm looking forward to watching the rest of the season. If this show boosts sales of the video games it will be a nice incentive to keep the series going.
I did have trouble understanding the dialog at times but that may be the fault of my antiquated ears.

MJ Bassett has recently mentioned on Twitter he did consider him for the role but thought he was too young at the time.

I watched episodes 3&4. Starting to really get into it now. I turned on subtitles and that helped a lot with understanding the dialog.

It's pretty telling that people need the subtitles in order to understand the dialogue. Whoever was in charge of the sound should be fired.

In a fantasy series I usually throw the subs up, anyway, but I didn't notice the dialogue being a problem, then again I always have subtitles up for fantasy and sci fi stuff.
Skallagrim takes a look at the sword fight in episode 1:
