A Gemmell fan to boot? If he doesn't mind swords and cloaks in a few years time, he'll be old enough to start playing the average middle-aged Gemmell hero . . . Aye, one of the youtube commenters suggested Waylander. There doesn't seem to be a opening credit sequence on Netflix Witcher, some variation on the following might have served, with the names and faces of the various actors being featured:

Yes, Henry Cavil being re-cast as Superman for DC was probably the main reason but I also wonder if creative differences with the Witcher team might also been part of the reason. He always did seem to take the lore and character more seriously than the creative team behind the show and I could see that difference in approach taking it's toll on his desire to participate eventually.

From the Conan thread: There is an ongoing rumor that Cavill quit the Witcher as he was really frustrated with the producers and writters about how the handled and portrayal the characters and story on the show. I believe you:

Good for Cavill, defending the integrity of the character. Wish more Hollywood types would do the same.

Judging by his demeanour during interviews Henry Cavill seems to be a true gentleman and grounded professional. He's also a geek and gamer, plays Witcher 3, Warhammer Total War, 40k, paints miniatures and like any knowledgeable fan, gets irritated when the lore is not respected:
I get the sense that he was considerably more in touch with the material than the writing team was to the point where it constantly chafed against his integrity so much that he just lost faith in what they were doing. Then Superman came calling and he made a graceful exit - up, up and away.

Nice, episode 1 was amazing. Loved seeing him cut his way through those guys.

I wonder what specifically broke the camel's back for him... I've only read a small sample of the Witcher short stories and enjoyed them. But I'm liking the show, too. Other than casting decisions the spirit of the stories is preserved so far from what I can tell for the most part.

We'll have to see when it comes out.
