Looking at the nominations there are some very difficult choices to be made here, between nominees whose contributions are all outstanding.

Hi, All -
I was interested in ordering Vol. 3 of the Collected Letters of REH, which I recall seeing on the REH Foundation website earlier this Spring was still available direct from them. But when I went to the website yesterday, I found this entry by Rob Roehm, dated May 31, 2016:
"We’re in the process of updating our website and moving some things around. Until everything gets settled, please send ordering inquiries to info@rehfoundation.org. Sorry for the hassles."
So I emailed info@rehfoundation.org to inquire about ordering Vol. 3, but I haven't received a response yet.
My tentative conclusion is that if they are re-doing their website, and taking this much time to do it, I wouldn't be holding my breath for them to be getting the new Forum up and running! I'm just glad that this Forum is available!

Hi, Von K.!
Well, that is good news! I admit to getting a bit frustrated. No one has ever responded to my inquiry on the REH Foundation website. Is that to be expected?
However, it is wonderful to think that all 3 volumes will eventually be available, with additional, new material added to the collection. I will try to be a bit more patient!
BTW, speaking of REH Days, this year they were highlighting the film, The Whole Wide World, celebrating its 20th. anniversary. It also happens, of course, that the director of the film recently passed away, so I'm sure there was a special mention of him. Did you attend? I would have dearly loved to go, but it sounds like it would be extremely complicated (not to mention expensive) to get from my home in Nova Scotia to Cross Plains, Texas. Can you tell us a bit more about some of the events? What did you enjoy most? Did they record some of the highlights, perhaps to post them on YouTube or elsewhere?
Thanks for info!

Hi Valeria, You can get a glimpse of Howard Days 2016 through the vids posted on youtube by Ben Friberg, who won the Black Lotus Award in this years REH Foundation Awards for his filming of Howard Days. I posted a link to them in one of the other sub fora: swordsofreh.proboards.com/thread/243/howard-days-2016Lots of REH insights there from everyone, and Guest of Honour Michael Scott Myers shares personal reminiscences on the filming of The Whole Wide World. You can also catch up on panels from previous Howard Days there too. Niguable has posted in another thread that plans are also afoot to re-release REH's correspondance with HPL 'A Means to Freedom' as a trade paperback, so that's in addition to the planned update of Collected Letters. I live in the UK, and keep up with Howard Days through watching Ben's vids. My own favourites tend to be the boxing panels, but they're all great. All best Von K

Hi, Von K. -
Thanks for the great info about Howard Days and Ben Friberg's videos! I will check them out! It sounds like a wonderful alternative for people like us for whom travelling to Cross Plains is not really a practical option. Frankly, just getting a room in the area sounds like a feat in itself. (only one motel in Cross Plains itself. Bummer!) So although I would love to go, it is not likely to happen except in daydreams. :-)
And btw, I did get an email response from Bill Cavalier of the Foundation explaining in more general terms about the plans for future publications, and I responded that you had already filled me in (without naming you) as to some of the plans to publish a revised and expanded collection of the Letters. He mentioned that at some point they intend to re-publish REH's collected poetry as well.

If you do ever get the chance to visit it really is worth the effort , just walking in the house and around Cross Plains is an unbelievable feeling , apart from meeting everyone. We stayed in Brownwood in '06 which was handy for the visit to REH's gravesite and at Lake Brownwood this year , just half an hour from Cross Plains.

Hi, Terry -
Thanks for your comments!
Well, I would love to go, but I find it hard to believe that there will ever be a theme in which I am more interested than this year's, with its focus on The Whole Wide World. If I couldn't make it for this one, I'm not optimistic that I will ever make it. :-( But you're right, I'm sure a visit to Cross Plains and vicinity and the Howard home would be worth while. I have read about REH's home, and it seems to me that he must have been largely confined to a restricted area - his small room, where he did all his writing - which most of us would not be able to tolerate. Although he did own a car and got away from time to time, still his writing regime often found him sitting for, like 12 hours at a stretch. He must have been remarkably disciplined and dedicated to his craft. But it also suggests to me why his imagination roamed so vividly - I feel that was the escape for him from a reality which was almost unbearable.
Anyway, I hope that, one way or the other, I might be able to attend Howard Days some day! :-)
