Spanky tells the story of Tarzan. ERB/Tarzan was huge in the '30s. The Little Rascals also had the classic "Mr, Hood, who's stronger, Tarzan or Flash Gordon?" discussion. Oh, what the kids are missing today without these!

Here's the best Skarsgard interview I've seen or listened to regarding the new film. They talk about the actual movie and a bit about Tarzan and ERB. It's more than just Skarsgard's abs and his workout routine, etc.. they go on and on about on the talk show circuit.

Early reviews for Legend of Tarzan are now out, and they are rather mixed, to say the least. Fans of the genre, and of ERB in particular seem happy, while the rest of the critics seem fixated on the issues of race and colonialism from a 21st century perspective. Worried about feeling "uncomfortable" or hurting someone's feelings? This is probably not the movie for über "PC" viewers, even though it seems to bend over backwards to avoid hurting anyone's feelings; this is a tough film to make in today's market. Hell, I just wanna see the ape-man kick some ass...

Hell, I just wanna see the ape-man kick some ass... I whiz from a great height upon their "sensibilities". I've heard enough from people I trust to know this kicks ass. Hell, even John Burroughs, ERB's grandson, thinks this is a movie that Ed would've loved: thetarzanfiles.com/2016/06/29/grandson-of-edgar-rice-burroughs-at-last-we-have-a-winner-other-erb-fans-also-smiling/

A worthy review from a young woman, no less: time.com/4389829/the-legend-of-tarzan-movie-review/I don't think near enough is made of what ERB's Tarzan actually is: an orphaned refugee, raised by the original, prehuman, indigenous people of Africa. Born in Africa, he becomes an immigrant to the West, where he is never truly comfortable. As for his interactions with sub-Saharan Africans, they run the gamut. I read LION MAN a few years ago and what struck me was that Tarzan had a great animosity against the film director because he mistreated his askaris. The Waziris are consistently smart, admirable people anytime they appear in the Tarzan novels. People need to get over themselves.

Yeah, people had it pegged between $28 and $30 million and it came in close to $40 million, with a 4 day take around $45 or so. But what stunned me was the budget: $180 million? That's really not that far off from John Cater's $250 million. If they'd been able to bring this in under $150 million, its profit prospects might be a little better. The good news is the people that saw it seemed to really like it, so word of mouth seems to overruling the so so reviews. My weekend ended up a little more homebound than intended due to my son's fever, maybe next weekend I'll try to get out and see it.

Saw "The Legend of Tarzan" last friday night and I liked it, I have the usual complaints about too much cgi and it's a bit slow to get going but I found it to be an enjoyable movie with a couple of memorable ass kicking scenes which is more than I can say for a lot of action movies. I hope it does well because I think a sequel could get right into the action, and they should put that cgi to work and have Tarzan visit Pellucidar in the next movie:D

Just got back from the theatre. I took my 9 year old to see the film. I liked and knew that I would, but more importantly my son loved it. Certain parts seemed rushed, but that's Hollywood for you. The film also might have benefited from a bit more back story, I found myself whispering explanations to my boy more often than I'd like. It was explaining that the same guy that created John Carter(one of our favorites) created Tarzan that really got him enthusiastic about going. It was a great experience.

Not sure what to do. I wanna see it, but my town only has one theater, and it's being shown in 3D only. I hate 3D. I was not happy with Star Wars in 3D at all. I wear glasses, and with the 3D ones on top, there are reflections and much of the crisp detail of HD film is lost to me. This shitty post-production 3D "lip gloss" is just a cheesy money grab, as far as I'm concerned... But, I'll still go to do my part to support a possible sequel, but I will enjoy the bluray release a lot more.
