I just got my physical copies of Red nails 1&2 and I must say that I'm actually disappointed at how small the printing was. The panels for the artwork seemed so minuscule and the writing was an eyesore. The storytelling and artwork were phenomenal though and I don't regret adding it to my collection. What I do regret is the fact that Ablaze decided to make a graphic novel into a comic sized book and split into two parts. The covers are great but aside from that I see no reason to not make it a single issue graphic novel. They are releasing the stories months apart and it wouldn't hurt in terms of finance to make HC GNs (I know there will be Hardcover collections in November but those will also be regular Modern age comic book size).
I don't hate these books, they're actually some of the best Conan material I've read in a while and I do encourage you to buy it but just be prepared for the size being an issue.
PS: I read issue 1 digital and so it looked a lot more pleasing. I also feel like that heightened my expectations for the comics.

That's too bad regarding the scale of the printing. Maybe I'll hold off on also buying the trades. They really need to put these out in the original format that Glenat published them.

That'll might depend on how much they make on the single issues, but my guess is they've got the collections already lined up. Most likely it'll be the typical collections you'd see in the book stores. If it's anything more extravagant than that, I'll be surprised (pleasantly so).

Maybe it's worth us emailing Ablaze the suggestion? The format seems to be paying off in spades for Titan and the Elric adaptations they're publishing in the original bede format. I'd pay up to thirty bucks per album.

I am also willing to pay for an album as opposed to the monthly comics. Earlier I started a personal project to get the translations printed in HC by sending them to an online printing company for my own personal copies (Not sure how legal that is) but creating and calibrating the titles in HC takes exhaustively long and costs about $70 per book.
That being said i'm still feeling inclined to order one and see how it turns out (That is if Ablaze doesn't wanna make a GN sized copy commercially)

Wow, was that ending rushed! If I’m going to bust Brian Wood’s chops for dropping Belit’s dance, then Regis gets demerits for cutting Valeria whipping the slave girl and getting Conan’s last lines wrong. You can’t do a story like this in this page count.

Some areas feel extremely rushed tbh.

I highly doubt they would remove panels or artwork, rather I really hope they wouldn't, it may just be that the original album was that abridged.

Okay, I read both issues back to back a few days ago and really enjoyed the first issue. It was damn near perfect and I can see why they wanted to devote as much time as possible to the Dinosaur/Dragon scene. The plot of the second issue did feel a bit rushed, though. As johnny said, this is not one of the yarns you can really condense, and yes, cut out an iconic scene. I agree with Conan's final lines being modified as well, there was really no reason for it. IMO, for these adaptations they need to keep as much REH in there as possible.
As far as the art goes, if this was any other comic on the stands I probably wouldn't have bought it, the art style doesn't appeal to me, but I enjoyed seeing this particular style on a Conan comic (only two issues, I wouldn't buy it as an ongoing I don't think), and the artist did a good job with Valeria and the jungle scenes, especially. That first issue was easily the best of the two, although that's not really fair to say as this was originally one graphic novel.

It’s almost like they took their time with the early part of the story, got a lot right, then realized they only had X number of issues to finish the story and adjusted from there.

Yeah, basically just checking boxes once they entered the city. Felt like a book report of Red Nails at that point. But the artwork once they were inside was pretty good as I flip back through it.

Couldn't have summarized my opinion on it better. I see that they're gonna adapt PotBC in 3 issues so I hope it won't seem too rushed.

Late to the party as usual. I just finished this. It was okay I guess? Pretty condensed version of the story. Art was pretty cool. I like the ladies, the were drawn like they were made of bubble gum
