Please correct me if I'm wrong, but didn't one of the Conan comics by Marvel have him and a group of pirates land on what would one day be known as Iceland? I think it was one of the annuals.

Hi, I don't know if the island Conan arrives at is Iceland, but, anyway, the story is "Wrath of the Shambling God" from Conan the Barbarian Annual 9.

Can you give a few more details? Did he meet people that resemble Inuits? Was it in the Savage Sword mag? Maybe you are thinking of issue 168 of Savage Sword. There is a giant malicious whale that terrorizes all the animals in the area causing starvation and disease born from weakness.

Hi, everyone! I was an avid reader of Conan comics in my youth and I had had quite a large issue collection, never mind the ones I kept borrowing from friends. One of them had a story of Conan being captured and chained by an evil and powerful warlock. I don't remember any specifics, but the warlock had drawn 4 cards from his deck, each one supposed to depict a possible death for Conan. Indeed, turning the first 3 one by one, they revealed gruesome and horrible deaths. However, Conan managed to break free from his fetters before his captor turned the last card and slayed him. In the last page, Conan turns the last card which depicts him crowned, sitting on a throne. I've been looking for years for this issue, but I don't remember neither its title nor the series it was published in. Any hints would be highly appreciated. Thanks!

I believe that’s Savage Sword of Conan #176.

Hey guys. Someone posted a request on the r/conanthebarbarian subreddit asking for help finding specific issues. That wasn't of much help to him so I'm doing him the favor of posting his request here. His post is as follows: Hello Conan friends, I used to have two comic book issues in my early teens at home, two separate stories starring conan the barbarian. Sadly it got lost during house cleaning or moving over 10-15 years ago and I can't for the life of me remember what the name of the comic stories are nor find them online anywhere. They were sold in Sweden in regular grocery stores and such and the language was printed in Swedish too. Somebody on the planet must know something about these comic books I used to read all those years ago.
Conan story 1: It's a Conan story where he and a band of his mercenary friends or something stumble upon a strange village (possibly in a foggy/swamp looking area. They seek shelter there, but basically, this village is cursed, because I think it was ar night, the villagers turn into hideous monsters. I don't remember everything about the comic story, but it ended with conan sleeping with a woman of the village and when she reveals the villages terrible secret to him, she begins to turn into the monster shape of herself and tells Conan to run away from the village and he escapes and never looks back. In the end of the comic issue, Conan is the only survivor left from that village. All of his bandit or mercenary friends were either killed or turned into the same creatures as the villagers.
Conan story 2: a city with a giant Tower at the center that pilgrims and travelers come to and donate insane amounts of gold and treasures to the city. The treasures are all brought to and stored inside said giant tower. The tower is rumoured to be visited by a kind of cloud-looking God to suck up all the gold like a vacuum into the sky. The tower kind of looks like an upside down bong but is hollow on the inside with a round opening at the top, like a giant chimney. I think the the city is in a desert.
Conan meets an old friend at the beginning of the comic issue, blonde woman, purple(?) looking revealing outfit I think, thought for a long time it was Red Sonja but it may be any female character. Woman is shown topless in the comic, full nudity. Conan and said woman discuss about the city with tower filled with riches in front of a campfire while she gets dressed and they agree to travel travel there to get the treasures etc. Later in the comic after stuff happens in the tower, the now revealed-to-be-true cloud god shows up to the two main characters surprise and starts sucking out all the gold and treasures from the tower and spares Conan and his blonde female adventurer friend. I don't remember the rest. I bought the comic books in Sweden as a teenager around the years 2000-2008 perhaps, but I can't find any trace of these comics ever even existed.
Both of these comics were drawn in color, not black and white.
I have no memory if these comics were cross overs or derived from Conan, like one shots or short series or if Conan was a guest star in the second comic, but I remember the art was especially gorgeous for the latter Tower comic.
If anyone knows anything about these two Conan comics from around 2000-2008 or so please let me know all you know about these comic stories, I can't be the only one who has owned or read them. I'll even buy them internationally if need be. |
Here's my assumption: I've read practically every original Conan material published by Dark Horse so it isn't any of those. It obviously isn't new Marvel stuff cuz OP states that this was 10-15 years ago. It isn't any B&W mags like marvel did back in the days because they were colored. They also couldn't be any of the colored Marvel comics because those were regulated by the CCA and therefore never showed nudity. So I think it's something relative to Sweden. I did some of my own trivial research but didn't turn anything up. If any of you guys know about this I'd appreciate it because those stories sound interesting. -Thanks.
