I just got v06 which is the thinnest volume yet. This is strange considering v05 is the thickest volume so far. What's the logic here? I'd have to go back and check out my mapping of a possible Masterworks for Conan if Marvel ever got the license back (I was 5 or 6 years too early). I did it based on story breaks so I'd have to compare. It's on one of my hard drives, might be in the cloud drive as well. But story breaks are the likely cause, they sometimes do it like NASCAR pit stops on a road course, they calculate it backwards to see where they need to break things down.

It's probably because most volumes are roughly devoted to writers of CtB: Volumes 1 to 4: Roy Thomas (1-115) Volume 5: J.M. DeMatteis & Bruce Jones (116-149) Volume 6: Michael Fleisher (150-171) Volume 7: Jim Owsley (172-194) Volume 8: Jim Owsley & Val Semeiks (195-213) Volume 9: Written by whoever they could find at Marvel (214-240) Volume 10:The return of Roy Thomas (241-275) Volume 11: ?

The storyline from CtB carries on in SSOC so be interesting to see how they handle it. Cory had said he would put the CTB storyline from SSOC in the CTB omnis. It's either changed or it'll go into a V11, I suppose along with Conan the Adventurer since Roy wrote it. As long as they keep them in Black & White.

Thanks for the info about the logic behind the volumes.
Marvel colored SSoC stories for the Hour of the Dragon trade but left the story in v02 in black and white. I don't mind coloring. It's not perfect, but it could be a lot worse.
If they only reprinted SSoC in color that would be another story, but the originals are easy to come by...

I had been collecting all the original Marvel years Epic Collections (and all the Dark Horse ones, too).
Thankfully Dark Horse got finished in time, but of course the Original years won't.
I think I'm gonna have to hop over to the Omnibuses. I figured if I get 4 and 10, I'll have all the Roy Thomas years.
My question is - are there any particularly outstanding volumes between 4 and 10 worth getting? In an ideal world I'd like them all, but 7 omnis might be a bit heavy on the wallet 😅.
Particularly when combined with my question on the SSOC of Conan thread too!
Thanks!

Volumes 1-4: You can't go wrong with the 1st Roy Thomas run (1-115). Highly recommended.
Volume 5: J.M. DeMatteis & Bruce Jones (116-149): I think the writing sucks in this volume. Great art if you're a Buscema fan. Or a Gil Kane fan (127-134).
Volume 6: Michael Fleisher (150-171) The writing still sucks and is only saved by the art of Big John Buscema.
Volume 7: Jim Owsley(Christopher Priest) 172 & 194. There is an improvement in the writing by Jim Owsley. I kinda stopped reading CtB after Buscema's last issue 190.
Volume 8: Jim Owsley continues to write with Val Semeiks (195-213).
Volume 9: I really can't find anything nice to say about this one.
Volume 10: Roy Thomas (241-275) Even the return of Roy Thomas can't save the book.

Awesome info, thanks a lot. That's good to know about volume 10, I tried to avoid spoilers but I saw there were lots of recurring characters from earlier stories that I thought would be cool.
I had thought about 7&8, especially as 8 has the official handbook included which I had wanted to get hold of anyway.
Have you read the Conan the King stories from the new omnibus? How were they?
Edit: 4 I deffo plan to get as then I'll have the whole Thomas run convered.

With the prices some of the omnis are going for, it might be more affordable to track down the floppies!

You're not wrong there! I've found a couple of good deals, but some of them are unbelievably high. I guess they'll never be reprinted in this exact format, or at least not for a long time now!
