How far to push the idea or concept of 'post apocalyptic' in other directions? extreme environmental problems alongside financial and economic crash could be valid; in the film 'Dredd 3D (2012) it is many years after the Atomic Wars that laid waste to the majority of the United States, and to the creation of the three big mega-cities, and people by and large wear basic, rundown clothing. Blade Runner 2049, and the environment has reached breaking point, again moving away from the concept of the sun-drench wasteland scenario.

Anyone have examples of barbarian robots that might have perhaps outlived most humanoid life on their planet? I can just imagine them roaming the desert, living off solar energy, and ripping skulls from torsos.
I guess Terminators qualify. The Painkiller and Jugulator from the respective Judas Priest albums seem pretty savage too.
Perhaps they could beam logical prayers from satellite stations into space in twisted logical hope that some techno gods will come to re-energize their world. Organic sacrifices would of course please some techno god-beast as well.

Not sure if this fits the bill, but one of my favorite examples of robots outliving humans is the point and click adventure game Primordia. It's in the vein of the old Lucasarts/Sierra adventure games. www.wadjeteyegames.com/games/primordia/

I was going through some of the Star Gate episodes. Anyone remember the Aschen who tried to turn Earth into a post apocalyptic outpost of the Aschen Confederation by depopulating the planet by secretly sterilizing much of the population through 'life-extending' vaccines. Almost a decade after the introduction of the drug about 91% of Earth's population is unable to procreate. The SG-1 team use the gate technology to send a warning back in time to their past selves against making contact with the Aschen world. The Season 4 episode "2010" I also enjoyed the follow up Season 5 episode "2001" where the Ashen use the vaccine as a cure for a pandemic on the Aschen world of Volia, again intentionally causing an enormous amount of the population to become sterile in order to rapidly decrease the birthrate on a world within the Aschen Confederation. The Aschen patiently wait decades for the vaccine to sweep into the genome of the entire race. Eventually there are so few individuals left that the advanced culture can effectively conquer the world, terraforming the planet so it is suitable for farming. In the process they often raise the remaining population themselves, brainwashing them into forgetting the past and providing maintenance to the farm land. I haven't thought of Star Gate for some time, but some of the recent real world events jogged my memory of the episodes.

I think the granite monument known as the Georgia Guidestones has apocalyptic overtones. Commissioned in 1979 by man using the pseudonym R. C. Christian they were completed in 1980 to function as some some sort of clock, compass and calendar built to withstand catastrophic events. The monument is a little over 19 feet tall made from 6 granite slabs weighing almost 240,000 in all. The anonymity of the guidestones' authors and their apparent advocacy of population control, eugenics, and internationalism have made them an object of controversy. A message consisting of a set of ten guidelines or principles is engraved on the Georgia Guidestones in eight different languages. I think the first guideline 'Maintain humanity under 500,000,000 in perpetual balance with nature.' has caused much speculation.

Amazon recently bought MGM studios (Stargate, Bond etc) for 8.5 billion. Strong behind the scenes rumors that Stargate will soon be back on screen on Amazon's streaming service. It's had a big fandom clamoring for it's return for almost a decade so Amazon will likely pick up a lot of subscribers. Maybe I might have to get myself one of these: www.amazon.com/Stargate-SG-1-Project-Earth-PATCH/dp/B00EPIVWDC

Doomsday is one of my ol time favourite post apocalypse movies. A deadly virus has infected Scotland, to quarantine the outbreak the British Government seals off the country with a massive wall, a kind of lockdown of sorts. The team sent into the Scottish countryside to find the cure is pitted against cannibal marauder and medieval style knights.

There are many articles at the moment about the side effects of some of the experimental mRNA based Covid vaccines, screwing with people's natural immune system by way of spike proteins attaching themselves to dna and so on, but keeping in line with the theme of this thread I have read fanciful stories where people claimed that the Covid 19 vaccines would turn people into zombies, complete nonsense, but I think that notion, in part, was stolen from the post apocalypse sci fi film 'I am Legend'. 'The 2007 film, starring Will Smith, is about a failed attempt to genetically re-engineer measles to cure cancer, killing 99% of the world's population. Those who survive the infection turn into mutant vampiric creatures. Claims that something similar would happen to people receiving Covid jabs have been circulating on social media.' www.bbc.com/news/entertainment-arts-58164833It was good until they introduced the badly done cartoonish CGI created zombie mutants. They should have just had people in zombie make up late 20th century style.

Here is a 2012 concept trailer for a film that was never completed. The movie is called Gray State. The film maker David Crowley was murdered in his home alongside his wife and child in 2014.The official story was that it was a murder suicide.
Gray State is set in a dystopian near-future where civil liberties are trampled by an unrestrained federal government. There was a time when I would call something like this pure fiction, but these days it almost seems more of a documentary.
Of course with so many freedom loving barbarians like ourselves I think any plans by big government to have over reaching control over us would ultimately be defeated, but man don't they love to try every 80 or so years.
Notice at 0.52 where the store sign says 'Be Smart, Be Safe' and also at 0.55 the headline 'Shutdown'.
Anyway, enjoy.

Strangely enough I almost feel more comfortable with a planet of the apes post apocalyptic future.
