Yeah, the mammoth is one the better parts of Destroyer. In fact, a lot of the locations, ruins, statues, etc. look pretty good. I always appreciate it when a fantasy movie goes the extra mile in dressing their locations.

In some ways Tracy Walter as Malak was a replacement for Subotai from the original (played by Gerry Lopez ). In all honesty Malak was not a bad attempt at the classical 'comic relief', although Subotai was never that in CtB. IMO, "if" Subotai was in Destroyer and Malak wasn't, that would have instantly improved/salvaged the tone of movie. Even as a kid I found Walters responsible for the majority of the "cringworthy" moments in the film.

If I was in charge of casting for Subotai in this day and age I would probably choose Tadanobu Asano from 'Mongol' also known as 'Mongol: The Rise of Ghengis Kahn' fame. I still don't know what to think of Grace Jones as Zula in a Conan movie. She was certainly different, but kind of interesting and amusing in her own way. Remember these lines 'Jehnna : How do you attract a man? What I mean is, suppose you set your heart on somebody. What would you do to get him? Zula : Grab him! And take him!'

I thought Jones was terrible and totally overcooked it. I honestly think that the sole reason Conan would team up with a thief like Malak was his singular ability as a 'walking lockpick'. He certainly wouldn't consider him anything like an actual companion like Lopez' character.

Conan the Destroyer is on ITV4 in the UK right now.

I rewatched both movies today, and a silly detail about Destroyer jumped out at me. Conan will sometimes wear pants with his fur diaper, sometimes not, and there's basically zero rhyme or reason to it. Freezing cold ice castle? No pants. Raiding a temple in the desert? Pants. Formal ceremony for saving the day? No pants.

Great to see the princess still has those pouty lips.

I always preferred Sarah Douglas as Queen Taramis.

From younger days, of course π
Back in the 80's, but now, Sarah Douglas is old enough to be my mother, no disrespect intended, she is a beautiful and dignified woman. However Olivia d'Abo, too young in CtD, these days around 50, looks great, but I like mature women ( not old ). There was also Grace Jones, highest respect to her as an artist, although not my type. She nailed the part of Zula.

Btw, I dont think its disrespectful to say that a person enters the years. It awaits us all once. Yes... Sarah was an extraordinarily attractive woman in the 80's, and she is one respectable lady today. Same as Olivia, although she is much younger than Mrs. Douglas. In her twenties and thirties, she was a beauty (as she is today, regardless of age), which was rare to be seen π I say, I was so in love as a boy watching her CtD. I regret somehow that she didnβt make a bigger career.
