Conan King-Size #1

To celebrate Conan's 50 years at Marvel, a publisher will launch, in December this year, a special called Conan King-Size # 1. The project is led by "Rascaly" Roy Thomas and has a creative team to be envied. There will be 5 stories in a single bound and each story will have the following creative pairs:


- Roy Thomas (screenplay) and Steve McNiven (art).

- Kurt Busiek (screenplay) and Pete Woods (art)

- Chris Claremont (screenplay) and Roberto de la Torre (art)

- Steven S. DeKnight (screenplay) and Jesus Saiz (art)

- Kevin Eastman (script and art)


The names are really impressive. Roy, Busiek and Chris Claremont need no comment. Steven S. DeKnight is a rookie at Marvel and is known worldwide for creating the famous Spartacus series. Kevin Eastman, also a Marvel rookie, is simply one of the co-creators of the famous Ninja Turtles.


It is difficult not to feel excited. The arts seen in the Preview below are also eye to eye ....

Couldn't have said it better. I'm assuming the stories are gonna be original and the art looks absolutely great. This is the kind of anniversary Conan deserves at Marvel.

This is the kind of quality Marvel should have launched with when they regained the license from Dark Horse.

Maybe they can use this as a jumping off point for a proper reboot.

The publishing halt due to Covid allows for the opportunity to get things right.

There won't be too many more chances.

It certainly looks good , McNiven has a BWS/Kayanan vibe. I was impressed with some issues of Wolverine he did. I tweeted Fredrik it might be an idea for DeKnight to write a TV series as he's taking a stab at Conan in this. If they put out something like this every few months with talent such as this rather than the monthly grind they might tempt me back.

Now this is something to get excited about! Roy and Kurt in one issue is a dream come true. And even the cover is good; can't wait to get my hands on this one.

Is this going to be a series, bimonthly or quarterly? Calling it #1 gives me this impression...

Are those pics supposed to be variant covers and if so, how will they be labeled and who are the artists? IIRC, I'd have to ask at least a month in advance with my comic book store, if there are variant covers.
