I can see them going to Sapochnik considering how enthusiastic Malmberg sounded about him for Legend of Conan. Marshall might need to take some time off to get some distance from Hellboy's reception. The good part about the approach they're taking this time out is they can do a main series to get things established then go to those guys later on for either a season 2 or a different project.

Just yesterday I re-watched Escape From New York and I have to say that a young Kurt Russell would have been a good fit as Conan. A little bit of a workout regimen would have put him in the right psyche. Sure he's not exactly a giant, but I think he would get the acting part down perfectly. And he would nail Conan's attitude.
What do you guys think?

Just yesterday I re-watched Escape From New York and I have to say that a young Kurt Russell would have been a good fit as Conan. What do you guys think? Kurt Russell is a legend. I personally adore him 😀 And although I agree that he would stab where he should with his attitude and some other qualities, I'm not sure if he would be the best choice back in some better days. Although, I would definitely watch it and, no doubt, enjoy his performance. Whoever finds himself in the role has a thankless task ahead of him. And no matter how good (or not) that person is, he will never be able to satisfy us all completely. Nor will anyone ever be "translated from the story to the movie screen" Conan. The big problem with our dark Cimmerian is simple - he's just to unrealistic. A 7' White Guy with brown skin wo has Muscles like the Mountain, is flexible & quick like a panther & runs like a Gazelle? Who can also act? Where are they gonna find that guy? For them to portray Conan correctly, they either need to animate him, or we fans need to accept that a physical version that is 100% faithful to the books is just straight up not going to happen. Though, there's way more to him than the look. Conan has a personality. Conan has mannerisms. Conan has things he consistently gets upset about & he's got things he always finds funny. He also has things he will always fight for & things he will avoid at all costs. That's probably why I didn't have a problem with either Arnold or Momoa in the role. Not even with Ralph, for Crom's sake! Whether he's "Dark haired, sullen eyed" or not, if he does those things, to me he counts. But when it comes to acting choices, the last few days my atention we're drawn by actor Derek Teller, who played Conan in the Wayne TV series (yes I know, I’ve already made a tread about it, sorry to bother you again), but I can say this - the man (for me) gave the best interpretation of the character so far seen in the live action variant. Direct Howard quotes, appearance, voice ... If he would add a little more muscle mass, we would get an almost perfect Conan. While this will almost certainly not happen, I naively hope that Netflix will at least take him into consideration: m.imdb.com/title/tt8559618/mediaviewer/rm1275031040/

Not to be a "Debbie downer", but Malmberg seems to be all talk, what has he really accomplished for a positive Conan project?

Skepticism is definitely warranted until we see the writers, directors and cast. To be fair the Amazon situation just seemed to be a result of bad timing, rather than what happened with the 2011 film. Until we see this thing is REALLY going to happen, there’ll be this nagging doubt just lingering there.

The only thing that seems successful , so far , I think have been the games which is his background.

Dave Batista would have been perfect for the role of Conan back in 2011. Now he is to old, however, he could make a great King Conan if they decide to have 3 different actors portray him during three stages of his life (Young/Thief, Prime/Warrior, Mature/King).

Currently, at 6'5" and 218lbs. he would need to add about 25-30lbs. of muscle and he would look fantastic as Conan (focus on his traps, delts, lats and chest). His body type appears to be that of a Mesomorph so adding that type of mass would not be impossible to do in 6 months with the proper diet, resistance training and some Vitamin S. Without the Vitamin S assistance he could still do it but it would take much longer (2-3 dedicated years).

Crom blessed steroids (I’m a naturalist - at least for now). The truth is that without it, Hollywood would not look (I mean the actors) as it looks today. A strong mesomorph like Teller could, I believe, add solid muscle mass in a natural way, by more rigorous diet system and more intense adapted training, but, when big money and THIS possible role are at stake, a light dose for few months is not out of the question. I voa la - Conan of Cimmeria is born 😎

I think a realistic looking Conan, obviously he's gotta look strong. I'm suggesting something just a little more natural looking.

Pretty open on this, but after watching marvel stuff recently, I'd say a good Conan physique would be somewhere between Captain America and Thor. Iron Man, Ant Man, Vision, probably too lean. Winter Soldier seems like he could get there; Falcon with 10 lbs muscle could fit, too. Star Lord & Hawkeye + 15-20 lbs muscle could get there.
(Just random musings here; flame away!)

There wouldn't be anything unnatural looking about his build from what BlackHeart and I suggested. The only difference would be the speed in which he would be able to attain that physique. His physique would more closely resemble something between Reeves and Arnold and would look nothing like Coleman or the current day monster behemoths. Whoever plays Conan needs to have a serious pair of traps and a correspondingly proper sized neck. Conan is a warrior and a brawler... has anyone seen a successful wrestler, boxer or MMA without them?

I think they need to go for an athletic look with the actor and get away from the muscle bound barbarian in this series. Don't get me wrong, that does not mean he should not look strong.

I agree that the actor playing Conan can't be muscle bound. Think Ray Lewis type of build. 6'1" 240lbs and ran a 4.58 40 yard dash. Hard to argue there was anyone more athletic then he was in his prime. While he is absolutely jacked he doesn't resemble a muscle-bound bodybuilder.

I think a realistic looking Conan, obviously he's gotta look strong. I'm suggesting something just a little more natural looking. Look at my profile picture, brother. This is what natural looks like. I was bigger earlier, as natural I can go to 195 pounds (curently Im 186), and thats not important. My question is "Am I a Conan material"? I dont belive so. Not sayin' we need a pro-bodybuilder again or some mountain of muscle dude, on contre. But we need someone that looks like Dolph Lundgren from his He-Man days or Mattias Hues type of build. Muscles all over, not over-pumped but more like greek god build and raw strong look. Howard did described Conan as powerfull build man with massive muscles. And, in the end, its a fantasy mileu - it should look bigger than life and atractive in that way as much as its posible.
