Thanks for the link Von K. I found it interesting reading through some of the comments at the KS Campaign and the Forum. Why did Modiphius not sort this out with the original Source Book and allow such ridiculous alterations to the Wanderer volume? I'm pretty certain the eastern lands were just as exotic and mysterious in the very first volume titled Conan...Adventures in an Age Undreamed of. The timing sucks...especially considering the recent announcement of the Netflix deal. Thanks for the reminder about the kickstarter thread Hun. I'll just drop a link to it here: /comments Things are getting really serious if there are so many complaints and they're banning posts from their own customers.

Honestly putting diversity and removing some of the racism isn't bad at all. They shouldn't be banning their own customers but to be honest I don't feel sympathy for the customers either. A lot of their complaints boil down to "who cares what POC think I want it the way I like it."

Yes, this is concerning. But there is some silver lining to this-the fan backlash! Hopefully it does not fall on deaf ears.

A lot of their complaints boil down to "who cares what POC think I want it the way I like it." More like "who cares what oversensitive neurotics think, I want it the way Howard created it."

There is a big difference between modernising certain parts (which I agree with) and filtering them through a politically correct lens (which is generally anathema to many people, maybe even most, thus the complaints).
When the original writers and editor don't want to be associated with the changed version that's a big canary in the coal mine. When the Kickstarter and forum customers are complaining and offering polite suggestions in droves that's a whole flock of canaries.
Just wondering why they weren’t more open earlier about the specific changes and the reasoning behind them with the backers and ask for input, and pay attention and perhaps incorporate the best of it. Jason Durall was awesome at that when he was updating the old Runequest rules for Chaosium’s BRP. I don’t think he’s at Modiphius anymore, he’d have handled this much better.
Introducing PC policies, initial secrecy about changes which they know will be controversial, dismissing customers who complain - most of us have seen this pattern before with companies.
It looks like a few politically correct customers complained and Modiphius chose them over the larger mass of their existing customers. Ultimately it’s their prerogative to take their company that way if they choose.
They have a valid point that trying to appeal to too core an audience limits sales, this is a known phenomenon in rpg sales pointed out by the late Greg Stafford among others. Add to that the difficulty of maintaining interest and therefore sales over the life of a long product line, and I can see why they’d want to shake things up a bit. But I don’t think the PC strategy they are adopting here is going to win them the wider/younger audience they are seeking. Probably the opposite.
Just my 2c.

For example, the “Martial Arts” talent tree title was changed to reflect our editorial view, as associated unarmed combat with eastern peoples has a poor tradition of Orientalism within the hobby, when there are counterparts all over the world. Instead they are now called “Unarmed” techniques. The Lotus Road section was edited so as not to over-emphasise it as a drug route because “Chinese drug dealers” is another vicious stereotype used in stories that portray East Asian characters as a threat to the Western world, and is not something we wanted to publish. Lotus was not removed, only the tone of the passage has been changed. Equally, the tone describing the Vendhyan caste system was toned down, so it was not so absolute and all-encompassing as it was portrayed—as is not the case in South Asia—and provided players with a richer, more inspiring write up. I'm going to bet this has less to do with cultural sensitivity and more to do with the People's Republic of Fentanyl having a hook in them somewhere. I'm part-Columbian. Does it bother me when people describe Columbia as a crime-ridden hellhole full of cartels and corrupt politicians? No, not really. The other part is Polish. And, well...

Almost a year has passed since this thread started... is there any news? Is the new edition of the game going to be good or, you know, bad?
