Picked this up today, Meiwei certainly proves to more than the timid Scholar found in the last couple of issues. Looking forward to the rest of the story arc. Will Conan head west after his adventures in Khitai? If so, will he encounter the nomadic tribes of the Hyrkanian steppe? It could, potentially be where Conan first learns to master the bow among the Hyrkanians. I'd love to see your version of Conan's early years among the Hyrkanians/Turanians leading eventually to the Queen of the Black Coast years and beyond. Thanks for bringing us back Conan. My absolute pleasure. My plans for what come next, honestly, are in flux right now. My editor knows what I'd like to do next but that has to be balanced against broader publishing plan stuff being decided on a higher level. I'm finalizing the script for #25 (Legacy #300) and then things are still being figured out. If you're enjoying what Cory and I are doing, make sure you email CONAN@marvel.com to let them know you want to see more after the anniversary issue.

I sincerely hope that you do get the go ahead to continue as writer for Conan the Barbarian beyond #25 (Legacy #300). It has not been too often that I have really looked forward to the next issue featuring the Cimmerian since Marvel reacquired the rights in 2019, thankfully you have managed to do that with both the Conan the Gambler story arc in SSOC and with the Land of the Lotus in CtB. I really don't mind if the team of Aaron & Asrar continue relating the adventures of King Conan, but it'd work better as a mini-series and should not break the momentum you have established in the main Conan title.

I hope you all enjoyed today's new issue! Let me know what you think and if you have any questions. I definitely enjoyed it. Great Twist concerning Meiwei. Looking forward to #300.

Issue #21 was a solid climax to a tight little pastiche storyline. I haven't read such well balanced and satisfying Conan in a long time.
I especially liked the treatment of sorcery, which was suitably weird and otherworldly. I love it when modern authors work to give their stories a bit of the old 'Weird Tales' vibe of dark, eerie horror. Don't see it anywhere near often enough.
I hope you're pleased with your work, that it's being as well-received as it deserves, and that you get kept on to write a whole lot more.
I wrote a fan letter to the Hyborian Page about the last three issues. My first in probably thirty years.

It's deeply appreciated. Making the magic mysterious and dangerous/cursed is a key difference for me when it comes to writing Conan compared to the work I do on Dungeons & Dragons. In D&D magic is a tool used by heroes and villains, colorful and far more codified with schools of magic, particular spells, and scrolls anyone can use. In Conan it's far murkier, stranger and even when people do wield it with some success they never know for certain what the outcome will be. I'm trying to keep that serialized structure going with mini-arcs and climaxes while carrying sub-plots and references forward from story to story. That flow will be interrupted by #25, the upcoming anniversary issue, but my hope is that readers will be able to enjoy #13-25 as a satisfying block of Hyborean adventure.

Hello again Jim.
I wanna see you and Cory on a very long run on CtB.
But, what about a nice little mini series by Daniel Warren Johnson? Or a collaboration with art by Juan Ferreyra? Just read the Immortal Hulk: Time of Monsters one shot with Juan's artwork, love to see something like that in a Conan book.
Thanks Bil Hun

Thanks Bil Hun I think the current plan is to have just one new Conan book out per month. After the launch they put out a lot of Conan/REH stuff all at once and it seemed to over saturate things. That said, I would love to see more special projects with different art teams or a new Savage Sword Special with black & white stories.

Beautiful. This one and vol. 1 are the best so far of these modern covers.

Does that mean that Jason Aaron and Mahmud Asrar's King Conan has been shelved? Thanks for engaging with the forum and answering our questions Jim, it's much appreciated.

Jim, When I read that issue 25/300 would be “a return to a fan-favorite era” I wondered if it could mean that we’d see Conan on the deck of the Tigress once again. So, yeah, the news is pretty cool. If I had to name a favorite era of the original Roy Thomas run, the years with Belit would have to be it.
But I have to ask, are we seeing a re-set in where you’re working the timeline here? Are you leaping forward in Conan’s life in order to spin a chain of new yarns about his life with Belit? Or is this just a celebratory one-shot? Either way, can you give us a hint as to what to expect next?
I really enjoyed the excellent twist/cliffhanger at the close of issue #22. I feel like I gotta withhold judgement at least until you wrap up this storyline, but it’s safe to say I haven’t looked forward to forthcoming issues so much since my hair had a lot less grey in it.
