Some movement on the Red Sonja film. www.hollywoodreporter.com/movies/movie-news/afm-millennium-media-expendables-4-rambo-tv-1235043020/"The wheels are now firmly spinning on another long-gestating project, sword and sorcery feature Red Sonja, now with Joey Soloway at the helm (they replaced Bryan Singer), Hannah John Kamen in the lead role and a shoot planned for spring 2022." "Speaking of new talent, you’ve got Hannah John-Kamen playing Red Sonja. She’s obviously been in some big films, but not in a major lead role. How did that casting come about? It was an incoming call from a good friend. We met Hannah and jumped at the opportunity." "Are you lining this up to be a potential franchise? That’s the idea. I think the story is really compelling. Joey Soloway set a really beautiful story about the divided feminine, a coming-of-age story of someone who comes from nothing, from Mother Nature, into a world that is so man-made. And it’s about how she rises up to become a leader, and I think it’s a beautiful story that, set up properly, will lend itself to a franchise."

I love comparing this drivel about Red Sonja to talking about the Expendables! Talk about wide ranging.
But they seem to be pushing this aspect of the film which puts her into an agenda rather than a story. Maybe it’ll work out for them. I have my doubts.

Sounds like they're talking about a Conan film, just with Sonja in his place.

EXCLUSIVE INTERVIEW: HANNAH JOHN-KAMENIn other news, you’ve also been announced as Red Sonja – has work started on the film?
It is such an honour to be able to talk about this now. I still can’t quite believe it! I really felt I connected with the script and what Red Sonja represents. All of the training and prep is underway: I find it’s always the most exciting part to be able to create, articulate, discover and explore who your character is, what they represent and how they came into being. This role really gave me the freedom to voice my own interpretation of Red Sonja, and when you have the opportunity to do that, you have to grab it by the horns.

To whatever aspect the film works will likely fall on her shoulders. Sounds like it'll be similar to Evengeline Lilly's Tauriel in the Hobbit films. On paper, the character shouldn't work. For the most part, I think it did, but the bulk of that laid with the actress, not the writers. HJK may be able to find something in the character that'll work with and possibly above what's in the script. She at least sounds like she's up for the challenge.

She more Sonja like here. So here's a question...do you guy's want to see her hair dyed natural red, or something more more comic booky- like almost a neon red cosplay style?

Something in between the two. Not a fan of the fake looking neon red but I don't think the natural red would be bright enough to be an accurate representation of Sonja. Maybe a brighter red than natural but not excessively bright, so much that it looks like a cosplay wig.

Soloway is out. MJ Bassett, director of Solomon Kane is going to direct.
Those are good news.

A bit more optimistic about it with MJ onboard. I guess (s)he got fed up of waiting for Fredrik to get in touch again about Kane after nearly 4 years.

Someone with a Howard background will certainly help steer the film in a better direction than it looked like it was going. But will it keep HJK or Gail with the change?

Solomon Kane movie is Basset's best recommendation for this job.MJ has great skill to arrange and shoot brutal, bloody and effective action scenes and has great eye to catch grim, sinister atmosphere. He also made great casting choices in that movie.
His weakness in SK movie was the script. I wasn't a fan of his "SK origin invented and explained" origin story, holes in the script, history goofs,a Balrog lookalike CGI monster in the end, but directing, camera work, settings, practical effects/masks, and photography were really impressive for the budget he had. The real question is-will MJ change the actress and the screenwriter? The poster behind her says that she is a screenwriter, which implies that this is a completely new project. If so, then Hana falls away too.

If so, then Hana falls away too. I think the two would have to meet and talk about the project. Was Hanna drawn to it because of the character or the specific approach? She'd likely stay on in the former case if she matches what MJ has in mind or depart immediately if it's the latter.

I thoroughly enjoyed Bassett's take on a cinematic Solomon Kane. Notwithstanding the end of level big bad creature in the finale. In more current work, the direction on episodes of Strike Back, Reacher and Ash v Evil Dead showcased a real kinetic energy. MJ Bassett is perhaps a more fitting "genre" fit to Red Sonja than Joey Soloway. I look forward to seeing how this project progresses.

If, on the other hand, she stays in the role, I hope their story will be a HELL DAMN GOOD one, to get this movie out right.
