Look at that expression, a hint of fear and uncertainty, as if she has some real concern on how the movie will be received by the fans. Says it all.
It might top the box office failure and screen schlocker 'The Marvels', which is not saying all that much.
Not sure what is happening these days with movies, used to think that the basic laws of Capitalism would turn these things around, good ol supply and demand, but kinda strange that the studios are intent on doing themselves in. Maybe I read humanity wrong, I can understand greed, but this is whole new level of group suicide weirdness is beyond me.
Reminds me of this scene from The Addams Family series where Uncle Fester makes a new record for sinking the Addams business when they put him in charge temporarily, and everyone congratulates him on scoring a new low. That's where we are.

It's a strange combination of Hollywood seemingly not being able to create new ideals and wanting to twist existing ideals to conform to today's society.
It results in recycled, reshaped dough, mass produced in cookie cutter fashion.

It results in recycled, reshaped dough, mass produced in cookie cutter fashion. And no one wanting to partake in it…so they make more! This may end up being an enjoyable movie, but as hard as MJ is trying, it’ll be hard to think of it as THE Red Sonja.

How are you BlackHeart, your thread is still going strong after two and half years, but not sure where the Red Sonja movie is going to go, although I could guess I'd say good, my brother. Thanks for asking 😊 I hope you are too. I live, I train, I drink beer, and I am content 😉 I write a few lines along the way when commitments and inspiration allow. By the way, it seems to me that this thread will continue to push for a long time until we get an official announcement about what is happening with this little movie that we are expecting. There was a poster from MJ recently and that's all. I'm not sure what to expect from all of this, but since it's done, it might as well be worth watching. Purely from a fan's point of view. We can always whine afterwards about how it's bad 👀 Sometimes I feel like there's a curse on Howard's legacy, by Crom.

You mentioned some time back about getting back into training. Yeah, being active is the key, cut out or minimise bad food ( I drink the beer too ), have recently gone back to playing quite a few outdoor sports, football, running, building strength and so on, but I have always consistently exercised through out the years. I'm one of those people who picks up a footie and hassles other family members to stop looking at the televison or computer and come out to kick the ball around at the park while there are a few hours of light left in the day. It's not just REH works but there is a curse on other established franchises, too much is being turned into a shit show now, and after some years it seems like it's deliberate. I'm not sure why that is, the industry seems to have been taken over by pig headed ideologues with an agenda surrounded by yes men who just tell them what they want to hear to keep their pay packs. It's telling when it gets to the point that you look less forward to the movie itself, and more to the scrutiny that will follow after it's release, that is how I'm starting to view the Red Sonja movie package. All the things, teasers, pictures, set and costuming, director viewpoints and information that we have been provided with so far did not inspire promise, although initially I wanted to give the project the benefit of the doubt.

Training is important, my friend, both for yourself and for your appearance. A man has to work on himself. As a friend of mine said a long time ago "personality and education are important and should not be neglected, but all of that falls apart if your athlete's shirt does not fit well". Add to that some funcionality benefit. And of course few beer here and there... 💘 But hey, it's a long topic. As for the demise of established franchises and the decline of general quality in offer nowaday, it's enough to look at today's society and see that content for the smart and well-read has not been recorded for a long time. This is the era of the decline of all values, and the desire for obscene profits has never been greater. There is no more soul in the work, only stamping the product for profit. I still have some glimmer of hope that RS might turn out to be a solid film, as Solomon Kane is after all. MJ is a fan of Howard's work (at least to some extent), there has to be something in that story at least. But I don't have high expectations. Amazon and Netflix have shown what fate awaits the s&s/fantasy genre, so I'm slowly turning to European and Eastern productions when I want to see something of quality. I hope that both Malmberg and Conan will jump into the story with some big studio that has nothing to do with Hollywood. That's the only way we'll be able to see a decent adaptation.

That's ok, you can always add more on the other Blackheart specific thread as per your training regimen.
So much disposable trash now, I liken the Disney MCU, or was that MSheU, to the McDonalds of the film industry. There are those that still consume it even though they know it's rubbish.
A few have said that they are going back to their old collections, I can imagine people making comparisons with the 80's Red Sonja when this one is released, maybe we will get a chorus of 'the original doesn't look all that bad now'.
In all fairness, and I agree, MJ didn't do too bad with Solomon Kane, at least I found it acceptable, but nothing inspires confidence, personally speaking, so far in relation to the up and coming Red Sonja starring the badly miscast Matilda Lutz.

Fortunately, or unfortunately, it's not official RS movie poster; it was made by the fan, but nevertheless the official poster with Matilda as Red Sonja won't look significantly different either.
That's M.J. Bassett version of Sonja whether we like it or not.
I am not sure if the horse is too big, or if Matilda is too small? Maybe in addition to the short sword, they should have given her a pony horse.
It's a strange combination of Hollywood seemingly not being able to create new ideals and wanting to twist existing ideals to conform to today's society. It results in recycled, reshaped dough, mass produced in cookie cutter fashion. Well said.
This comic book collector (Frank Zanca) perfectly explained what kind of Red Sonja fans want to see on the big screen.

Yes, that's what I expect-a solid sword and sorcery movie, but not a Red Sonja movie.

And just think how bad it WOULD have been!
Why do they have to make these things so difficult?

‘Red Sonja’ Screenwriter Tasha Huo Says Upcoming Film Will Feature Stories Of “Great Female Friendship”, Explore “How Women Uniquely Survive Out In The World”
More Woke movies, just what we need. I still say it should have been turned into a feel good New York love story.
'To this end, the director then detailed, “Well, Red Sonja (2024) is also a little bit of a, I don’t wanna say a darker take, but a little bit darker take than you would expect, certainly compared to the original Red Sonja (1985). We want to be very careful with the CG to make sure it’s done properly and does the film a service rather than a disservice.”'
They always say 'darker take' when they have nothing else to really sell the movie on. I 'wanna' puke.
