I think you will find that Lashana Lynch plays Nomi, an agent who is assigned the 007 code in Bond's retirement. She is not portraying James Bond.
When it comes to all movies and TV shows based on REH's work, I will keep a positive mind. We can't judge anything without seeing the final production.

With Red Sonja I would like it if they did it as a 1980's style fun fantasy film that didn't take itself too seriously. Based on the creators’ previous work and Kamen’s casting, I don’t see it being light hearted fun. It may still be good, just with a more dramatic edge to it.

The comic character was Hyrkanian, so why was she "cast" as white in the comics? Yet cast someone who isn't pure white in the film role - instant trigger.

Perhaps, although depending on the end product, it may be dramatically funny, especially if they use it as another vehicle to push SJW politics, which these days happens all too often.

I think characters should be portrayed as they where originally concepted in the creators mind. Red Sonya is a tall white woman with red auburn hair, so be it, Superman, Batman and Tarzan should be played by white men that look like the comic heroes, just as Luke Cage should be played by a black man. I don't go in for all this putting tits on male heroes or replacing James Bond with a Jane Bond nonsense. It's just another formula for a 'go woke go broke' flop. Honestly, will you pay to go out and watch that political BS !?! The casting for Red Sonya does not make sense to me at all.

It would make sense if the filmmakers knew the "Hyrkania sort of resembles Persia" equation (I know Turan is more specifically Persia/Iran, but generally...). I don't know if they do. Soloway's resume is "funny but edgy", she doesn't seem the type to know her Hyborian Age geography well but I could be totally wrong. Maybe the other writer knows better, she doesn't have any credits to make a judgement. I could see Kamen more as Sonya of Rogatino, even if she is a little on the small side. I thought Gal was a little thin for WW, but I knew she had the military background and it certainly paid off for her. (and to bring it full circle, Soloway was EP of the Marston bio a few years back). Brigette Nielsen was the right physical type for Sonja, just lacking a little on the acting front. Angelica Bridges was basically the same. They've taken care of the acting side this time around, they'll just need to turn her into Sonja.

The people at Dynamite don't seem to care about sticking to any coherent sense of Hyborian geography, ethnography or continuity with anything that came before them; why should we expect anything different from movie people who care even less. I expect she'll be called Red Sonja because she wears all red by the time it's finished.

I expect she'll be called Red Sonja because she wears all red by the time it's finished. This seems more accurate than I'd like it to be.

As well as big part of this world is also I agree with your assessment in this thread. People complaining about upset fanboys and trying to trash anyone who thinks that gender/race swapping characters is not only unnecessary but insulting to the creator/author and the fanbase would be UP IN ARMS if it happened in the other direction. If they made Captain Marvel a dude or if they sprinkled in some white chicks amongst the lady warriors of Wakanda. In fact, they get up in arms when all is right. It takes zero amount of imagination to assume if they announced a new Tarzan movie today staring buff white guy actor man that there wouldn't be a world of complaints about how it's time to woke-ify it all up. Not only does it reflect a seedbed of ideological hatred, but it speaks to the parasitical nature of modern filmmakers. No one can create anything original. They only take older, better, creations and in an effort to seem original, edgy, woke, or whatever, they wind up sucking the life out of them. So come off it when people are complaining about the integrity of a work they care about being mishandled or outright destroyed for the sake of propaganda for a demented ideology. It's a problem in Hollywood and people are right to be upset about it and in a sane world this kind of thing could be discussed without one side continually calling the other side racist/misogynistic or whatever the hell else they use to shut down the argument.

In her time Red Sonja writers have killed her off, then heralded her return by being reincarnated and portrayed her enjoying sex with women. Ultimately Joey Soloway and Tasha Huo will have put their own vision into the script as how they perceive the Red Sonja story. I am looking forward to seeing a female perspective of the character.

Been pretty hilarious seeing the fanboys losing their s**t over today's casting news on Facebook. I've tried to help things along by taking the p**s at times. Looking forward , with great glee , to when Conan and Solomon Kane are cast LOL Is the general consensus good or bad? I don't mind the casting at all. Let's hope the production goes well and a decent sword and sorcery film comes out of it. Hard to say as it got quite a flame war with one of the admins deleting all the posts on one of the pages. I feel that those who know her were in the majority , others obviously didn't see her visually as a fit , with a minority playing the racist card.

Not something I'm willing to go to the mats over. After Keaton and Craig, I don't write anyone off until the project comes out...ok the Trank FF excepted.

Facebook got in touch with one of the admins saying "they are REMOVING posts from this group because they are 'violating their community standards against harassment and bullying'. My answer to that was "Wish they'd be as quick at sorting out 'their community standards against harassment and bullying' with the on-going racist remarks being aimed at our sportsmen and women."
